Hello,

I was diagnosed 9-19-18 with breast cancer. I am 43 years old with no family history and nothing on genetic testing. My tumor was removed 11-5-18. It was .7mm, no node involvement, ER+, PR+, Her2-, Ki67 10%. Got the word margins and nodes were clear 11-8-18. Plan was to move on to radiation treatment, then Tamoxifen. Last test waiting on was oncotype. Breast surgeon thought it would be a low number but it came back in her words as high risk yesterday and I will need chemo. My number is a 28. I have an appointment Tuesday with the MO. Just wondering what thoughts are with this information. My head is spinning as I wasn’t expecting to need chemo.

Thanks in advance

I'm older than you but otherwise our DX is pretty close. My oncotype was 27. I was so not expecting to have to do chemo. I cried when I found out. Now I'm through it and starting to feel back to healthy again. You can do this. I followed a forum thread on here designated for the month I started chemo and we went through it together comparing notes and figuring out strategies for dealing with various SEs as they came up. The first one was the hardest because I didn't know what to expect and didn't know how to make it the easiest possible. You do figure out how to get through it and it's so sweet when you are done.

Thanks for your reply :) I cried most of the day too. Was not expecting this.

Is the oncotype testing for recurrence of breast cancer or recurrence of distant cancers or both? I’m having trouble understanding what information the testing is giving me.

It is definitely for the chance of distant recurrence of breast cancer. The most likely places are bones, lungs, liver, and brain. I am not sure about recurrence in the breast.

    Hi again Rdhjoy,

You might find it helpful to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Oncotype DX Testing for some more information about what your results mean. We hope this helps and we will be here for you through it all!
