Hi

I got my results after having a double mastectomy and lymph node clearance. I had stage 2 ductal type cancers in both breasts 52mm and 9.7 mm they removed 16 nodes from right arm 2 were cancerous and 2 from left non cancerous.

It is proposed to give me Chemo for 18 weeks 6 cycles followed by radiotherapy daily for 3 weeks does anyone know how long the radiotherapy takes?

I have to have a further CT scan as I had 2 cancerous nodes in my lymph

Then tablets for 10 years I'm not sure if Herceptin was mentioned but will check at appt

Anyone been through similar or any thoughts?

each radiation treatment is usually no more than 20 minutes, and usually closer to 10. Sometimes they can take longer if you need imaging or if they can’t get the position right, but eventually you figure it out and it goes smoothly.

Since you need tamoxifen (the pill for ten years) I assume your cancer was hormone positive. Do you know if you were her2+ or her2-?

    Hi Star 2017

Thank you for info re Radiotherapy

I get the results for the Hr + or - on Monday what is the difference?

I will be having my reconstruction after treatment as there wasn't a surgeon available

    How are you doing now?

    pritchs04,

If your cancer is HER2+, your medical team will definitely recommend chemo. Moreover, your treatment will last longer -- typically, HER2+ patients do a year of Herceptin. If your cancer is ER+/PR+/HER2-, you could request that your team perform the Oncotype test which will determine whether the benefits of chemo outweigh its risks.

ER and PR positive, you'll take Tamoxifen or A.I. like anastrazole for 5-10 years, no big deal you get used to it, the side effects get better over time.My nodes were positive also, I had chemo first, 6 cycles, every 3 weeks. Then I had mastectomy, radiation, reconstruction. Radiation easiest part, kind of a drag to go everyday but 10, 15 min treatments. I only got a sunburn like reaction. Used to go to the gym right after. Chemo more of a challenge, but really only 3,4 days each cycle, you feel like crap. Then you feel pretty much back to normal, til next cycle. It's all do-able, not as bad as you're imagination! Before you know it, life is back to normal-ishπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜‰πŸ’–
