Questions about my report.
I'm 50 years old almost 51. I've been getting mammograms for years, always call backs for ultrasound because of dense breasts. I have a lot of cysts but no big deal. This time after the ultrasound they called me for a second ultrasound. They were concerned about an area in my left breast.
This is what is on the report: Additional evaluation was performed for the area of altered echotexture in the left breast, 2 o'clock seen on 11/6/2018. On the present examination, there is an irregular avascular area of altered echotexture with indistinct margins measuring 9x11x8 mm in the left breast upper outer quadrant at 2 o'clock located 8 cm from the nipple. Internal echogenocide is hypoechoic. There are decreased posterior echoes, edge shadows are excluded.
Impression: Area of altered-echotexture in the left breast is suspicious. Ultrasound guided biopsy is recommended.
My biopsy isn't until Dec 4th. They also have scheduled a post biopsy mammogram, not sure why?
I'm scared!!! Any insight or interpretation of this would be helpful .

What prompted the US? Did you feel something or was something seen on a screening mammogram? Do you have that report?
Post biopsy mammograms are routine.

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it.
They always call me back for an ultrasound because of breast density. Heterogeneous is a c. My doctor is pretty cautious because of all the cysts I have. I'm sorry I don't have the report from the mammo but I'm sure I could get it. I'm so use to having to go for the ultrasound that it's never a big deal anymore, until this time. Now I'm pretty scared. Can you explain some for the findings? I see some of the words you have on your list of not such good words.

when do they do a post biopsy mammogram
-
I’m sorry mammbear67. I understand the anxiety of trying to figure out what theses words mean. I have another week until my ultrasound guided biopsy. I have asked for versed or sedation because of extreme anxiety. I have read some horror stories on this type of biopsy which doesn’t help my anxiety.
I’m praying all is benign.

I'm not sure gtgirl. I didn't even know until I was checking my appointment time and saw that was scheduled also. I'm not sure what it's for. Guess it's time to call my doctor and ask.
-
Thank you gtgirl for reaching out. I hope your biopsy turns out b9. When is yours scheduled?
-
After the biopsy is done a very small titanium marker is placed internally at the biopsy location. This is done so that the biopsied area can be identified in the future on imaging. The mammogram immediately after is done to certify that the marker has been accurately placed.

thank you, 11/27/18

Thank you. That answers my question .

My thoughts are with you gtgirl. Let me know what happens .

I have had 2 stereotactic biopsies. Immediately after the biopsy each time, the tech walked me down the hall to the mammography machine and did a very gentle positioning. It was not at all like a screening or diagnostic procedure -- not much pressure at all. I took a Xanax both times and thought the whole biopsy was very easy. Hardest thing was getting off the table as I was woozy from the Xanax (Those two Xanax were the first two I had ever taken and I guess my body was pretty impressed with them). Well, no,actually the hardest thing was waiting for the result. Big time stress. Polly

Mamabear67...my advice is to have a MRI before any treatment decisions are made. The are the best screening tool for dense breasts.

The report is oddly worded if you have transcribed it exactly. They dont say there is a mass, just an area that looks different from the surrounding breast tissue. Hard to say what they are thinking, but I have gone on similar hunches in the past and found real abnormalities. Let us know what the biopsy shows.
-
It is done immediately after the biopsy. The breast is still numb from the local anesthetic so there is no additional discomfort associated with it right after a biopsy.
-
I was never told this.
-
That was exactly how it was worded. Thank you for your response. My biopsy got moved up to the 29th. I'll let you know what happens.

gtgirl, mammograms after biopsy may be the routine, but I did not have one after my biopsy. It may not have been mentioned because it's not done by your radiologist.
For what it's worth, my biopsy was a quick and easy procedure. Zero pain (other than the sting from the lidocaine to numb things up), and just a few dull aches over the next couple of days. My anxiety is not over the procedures though, just the outcome, exacerbated by all the waiting!
Sending good vibes and blessings for y'alls biopsies and the results! -
gtgirl, how are you after your biopsy?
