Just had my BMX on November 12 and am doing pretty well, but this 'surgical bra' is so beyond TIGHT!!! Why does it have to be so tight? I seriously don't understand what purpose it is serving to feel so tight all the time. It is such a relief when my husband takes it off for my sponge bath, but as soon as it has to go back on - yikes! I hate it! Sorry to complain, just wondering. Hope you are all doing well! Love and hugs to all of us warriors!!!

You know my PS hates those things, told me not to wear them. Ever. Ha!!

I’ve had three breast surgeries in last year and change and never wore one. I was allowed to shower on day 2 after surgery as well. Every surgeon does things differently I guess. I had to wear an annoying breast wrap after implant surgery though. I hated it, if that’s any consolation.

    Speedy healing to you!!

Hi, luckily I got out of that “thing” after my post op visit! I still had to wear it for 9 days! My surgeon me to get the sports bras that zip in the front!! Oh my... what a huge difference!! Almost 4 weeks and I still have my drain in. Numbers are over 30cc in 24 hours! So, maybe removal January 3rd!

Hi, I had to wear them after my lumpectomy and subsequent mx. What a pain. My pcp husband, breast surgeon and plastic surgeon all instisted that I wear it so that fluid build up would not occur in the surgical site. I get it. So I took matters into my own hands. I cut several inch long slits into the elastic that crushed my rib cage. That was a complete relief!!! It was still snug across my breast, even after the mx.

At night, I keep it hooked, but unzipper it. Drain is still in, 9 days later because my output isn't under 30 cc's yet. I went on Amazon and looked for good mastectomy bras. I bought a stretchy pullover lined, a lined tube top stretch and a hook sports bra.... Stretchy. They are soft and still have a nice compression.

How that helps! Hope you're doing better!!!

Hi. How are you? I'm new. Just had a mx on January 4, still have the drain in. Ugggggghh. I hate this thing. I'm at 60 CC's today down from 180 yesterday. It's seems like every other day this happens. So weird.....and my second PS appt is tomorrow. I'm sure it's not coming out.

Seems after a hot shower and raising my arm above my head in the shower, the bag fills up! Did your drain finally come out? And what did you do to to make the drain site less irritated?

    Thanks!!!

    Tammy

My plastic surgeon wanted me to do minimal activity until the drains came out. He said even taking long walks could increase the fluid accumulation. I did not raise my arms above my head until after drains came out. Hang in there

Christine1975 - I had the same question and my PS said I didn't have to wear the "iron bra" (surgery 11/16/18). I tried it on last week (no reconstruction) and the horrible thing was still so very tight! There are several good suggestions above; ace bandage worked for me. Ask your PS also. Good luck!
