Can You Feel Your Biopsy Marker?

Not truly worried, but more cautious.

Recently, I had my 6 month follow up after a B9 biopsy result. I've had an area near the lump I initially presented with that has felt strange and hard since my biopsy. I don't recall if it felt that way prior to the procedure as I didn't know then that anything other than a lump could be concerning. The lump is still there (the area biopsied was of concern on u/s but the lump apparently didn't show up on the imagining). My mammo and u/s were clear. The tech mentioned that my biopsy marker is the of a type that is surrounded by a gel material which slowly disappates over 12-15 months. The location of the marker is close to skin level and it measures roughly 3/4". She said that may be what I'm feeling but to call if it gets bigger.

I'm curious if any of you experienced something similar. I didn't know prior to my follow up that the marker has gel so that was interesting.

I had 3 separate biopsies and the markers they used were different for each one. For the last biopsy on my left breast the radiologist did let me know that the marker had migrated away from where they had meant it to be when they checked its placement on mammogram and that it might be palpable from the outside but she didn't think it would cause me any trouble. Two days later the marker they used worked its way out of the puncture wound from the biopsy. From discussing with the radiologist and BS it isn't unheard of to be able to feel the markers, especially if the site biopsied was closer to the skin. The working its way out of the wound issue isn't really something people have to worry about, I think mine was just exceptionally unusual.

That reminds me of my sutures from an oophorectomy trying desperately to get out of my body. They just kept popping out and having to be trimmed. Crazy, how things move around like that.

The placement of my marker was confirmed accurate on my follow up mammo. I’ve just never heard of people being able to feel them before. The area feels huge to me but I suppose it might of what I feel is the marker gel since it measures nearly an inch. So strange. If it’s the gel, I expect it should shrink over the next six months or so.

I think it has moved-soon after the biopsy I could catch the edge of the marker with my fingernail-completely unlike any texture before or since in my breasts. In retrospect I would decline a marker.
