I will start after Thanksgiving have to do CT and bone scan on the 20th I plan on getting a journal to keep track of everything I encounter. What foods helped I know it's not what will work for everyone.

What are your thoughts on silicone or saline breast implants?

mine are silicone. No one mentioned saline to me or they did and I just don’t remember. So far mine are fine tho they do ripple as they are on top of muscle and I have not done fat grafting.

What do you mean they ripple and what is fat grafting

If the implant is sitting above the muscle, it is just under the skin. It does not always look smooth and round. Sometimes there's slight rippling in certain positions. Some people choose to have fat taken from other parts of the body and injected around the implant so that no rippling is visible, and it looks and feels a bit more natural. The fat grafting doesn't always last.

The implant could also be put under the pectoral muscle, and then there are no concerns about rippling; however people do say this method can be a bit more painful.

If you are planning to reconstruct, definitely meet with a plastic surgeon before surgery, to make sure you know all the different options for reconstruction that are suitable and available for you.

Mine is silicone also. Rippling is when you do certain motions, you can see your skin kind of rippling. Because there's really nothing between the implant and your skin.Saline is even worse I've heard for rippling. I had fat grafting also they suck out some of your fat and inject it in certain areas to make it look more realistic. It looked Great! At first, but then a lot of the fat just disappeared.Dont get implants under the muscle, I did at first and hated it. I work out with weights and it was jumping all over the place!😄. When I was having chemo, I mostly wanted bland food, like oatmeal, mashed potatoes, crackers. Nothing tasted right, so I preferred food with little taste. Every now and then I craved something spicy, and lived to regret it! Burned my mouth, stomach! Don't do it! My lips got epically chapped! Water tasted weird, a little lemon in it helped. You might experience everything differently, My ninja bullet was great, I put greens, frozen berries, protein powder, even ice cream when i got too skinny. At least if i had that, i got nutrients. Youll get lots of tips here, plenty of helpful advice. If you get the Neulasta injection post chemo,be sure to take Claritin, day of and 3 days after Neulasta shot. Cuts the bone pain WAY down! Try to enjoy Turkey day😚💖

So from what I'm getting here is silicone is the best don't get it under muscle and remove fat from my stomach 😀😀😀 and add it to my breast.

The other option is using your own tissue to reconstruct a breast. The recovery is much longer, but many people prefer the results.

Remember, the right choice will be unique to you. It's very possible it won't be the same as the combo that worked for others.

I know the results will vary, but overall are you happy with them?

I guess I'm happy. I'm still getting used to them. They aren't like my old boobs, they don't feel quite like "me" yet, but when I'm dressed I look and feel normal, and that is nice. I also still need to do nipple reconstruction on my cancer side, so I'm still not feeling "whole" quite yet.

That is another thing to ask, if you're a candidate for using your own tissue for reconstruction. If you are, those results can be great. I've seen some , you totally cant tell!😀I never had enough body fat ,especially after chemo. I finally had a latissimus flap surgery, and im pretty pleased with it, nice and soft, good symmetry. My nipple reconstruction "died" so I'm in process of getting a nipple tattoo. So far it looks pretty realistic 😊 In clothes, even bathing suits, looks great!

    Hi Love,

Five years ago I was Stage 3 and terrified, just like you are. I was young also with a young family. But here I am and here you will be, too! One day this will all be behind you. For now, take anxiety meds and if you need a sleep aid to get rest (but not together) do that too. Rest is important throughout it all. Try to take one thing at a time, not look ahead too much to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Keep us posted!

don’t worry too much about reconstruction right now. You don’t need to make any decisions until the time of your surgery and even then things will be reversible if you change your mind. Really, take it one step at a time.

Love, yes you will have plenty of time to consider your reconstruction options during chemo. Your options may also partly depend on how your cancer responds to neo adjuvant chemo too.

I found that during chemo breads and sweeter things were easier on my stomach for the first few days. (For example, muffins, yogurt, oatmeal cooked with bananas, occasional ice cream.) After day five or so I was able to eat somewhat normally. Everyone is different though. I'd suggest having a stash of things around that you like, and don't take too much preparation.

Did you ladies have to get a port placed? If so how was it?

Yes, I did get a port placed. I was sedated, awake but sleepy. It was a brief and simple procedure. It feels funny to have it initially, but you get used to it.

When I had the infusions, I could still feel the needle go in initially, but icing or putting lidocaine helped dull the pain. It's very brief, and then you don't feel anything. It's much easier to get the infusion from the port, from what I hear.

i didnt have a port, and i kind of wish i had. The veins in my arm got fried from the chemo, and its a pain to try to get blood out of the scrawny little suckers.
