Machine after Implants?

Hi. My plastic surgeon told me after reconstructive implant surgery, I would go home with 6 drains (UGH) and a machine hooked up to me. Of course, I blanked after that and don't know what this machine is other than he said I can get the tubes wet but not the machine.

Does anyone know anything about this?? Thanks! Surgery tomorrow for the DMX. Yikes!

from what I’ve seen it’s not that common to have drains after exchange, or maybe just one. I’m not sure about the machine. Is there anything unusual about your case? Is there concern about dying tissue? Could you need a hyperbaric chamber?

????machine? Never heard of that, drains yes. You have to empty the drains and measure the fluid output. Sounds gross but no biggie. The drains have a bulb attached to collect the fluid. But maybe something new since I had recon in 2017? Anyone else?

That sounds like a wound vac. I had mine for 5 days. Helps the incisions heal. It is a pain but worked out well for me. Wishing you good luck and a smooth recovery!

Jamie- I agree with Simone, I had a wound vac for 6 days. I didn’t know I’d be waking up with one though, so it was a surprise!
