Hi

I had a double mastectomy on Wednesday 7/11/18 with full clearance right arm and nodes left removed They are taking my 1 drain out today day 7 but it is still draining approx. 100 mls a day from approx. 270 mls first 3 days has anyone had their drain out while still draining that amount?

Also I have a band across my wound and 2 seromas (blister swellings) at the top and across my  arm/boob each side of my wounds the nurse suggested I move the band up to the swelling but if I do the liquid has nowhere to go but to my wounds which will possibly split open with the swelling has anyone any experience of the band after surgery?

Pritchs04 I was not allowed to have my drains removed until I was at 25 mls for a 24 hour period. But I had immediate reconstruction, so I do not know how this plays into it. I also did not have a band, but wore a surgical compression garment 24/7 for probably 6 weeks. Can they maybe drain off the seromas? Or is the thought that they will re absorb? Good luck with your appointment and let us know how you do.

I went to my appt today drain approx 100mls pre them taking it out this morningthey put a dressing on and told me to leave it 48 hours then could be removed. By the time I'd get home the dressing and all clothes soaked with blood. I went to my own Dr at bottom of my street they redressed it but sent me back to hospital it was still bleeding they have put a massive dressing on it and made me an appt for next week. They have also taken my band so my swelling is seeping downwards now I don't have much confidence either is going to work out well any thoughts?

That's way different from my experience! My Drs wouldn't take my drains out til below 25 for 48 hours! I had one in over 2 weeks and hated it! But it's to prevent as situation like you're having. I can't believe they took them out when your wounds are still draining so much ! Doesnt sound right to me

    Hi

Update - well dressings intacked   and no sign of leakage but I am strapped up like mitchellin man.  seroma is moving downwards so not as uncomfortable but the wounds from mastectomy still intact I had thought with the pressure of the seroma they would burst open but so far so good
