Triple negative recurrence as single lung mass after 13 years

Options

Hello all,

We are waiting for surgical removal, followed by biopsy, of a single lung mass, 13 years after mastectomy, chemo, radiation for a triple negative breast cancer. Surgeons are suggesting they doubt the likelihood of a triple negative breast cancer recurring after 13 years, and specifically as a single lung mass. They would expect to see multiple lesions in the lung.

Any thoughts on whether the surgeon is correct or whether is can be metastatic breast cancer with these characteristics?

Thank you.

Since TNBC tends to return sooner, chances are, the docs are correct. The biopsy will tell for sure. When is it?

Sorry you are dealing with this stress

Have you had a bad cold between your last 2 scans? I was hospitalized for pneumonia last year so my MO thought my lung spots could be scarring from that. I had 3 spots initially and am also TN, but didn’t get much NED time. No matter what it is, at least it’s just 1 and they are removing it.

Thank you for your responses. Surgery is scheduled for 11/27. I'm sorry I didn't clarify. I had posted this elsewhere and didn't think to repost the fact that I am writing for my mom, whose first language is not English. There has been no bad cold. Yes, the plan is to remove, assuming the PET scan shows no lymph node involvement. PET scan is this friday.

Fauna, good luck with your mom & surgery! She is lucky to have you to help her with this and I hope she gets good need from the biopsy. I don’t think anyone can say for sure whether it’s mets or a new primary without pathology, but it is a very very good sign that she has been NED for 13 years and it’s just 1 spot. Especially with TN. Of course our minds always jump first to cancer and the worst case scenario but there are so many benign things that can happen as well. I would trust the doctors and try not to stress until you have facts in hand (easier said than done I know).
