Nerve Pain??

Hi just wondered if anyone else has had nerve pain in their breast post surgery?

Had surgery 10 months ago and recovery was fine... no pain etc. However, for the last four months I've had a lot of pain. The area which was operated on is tender to touch, struggling to sleep as wake if I brush it or sleep on it.

Went to the surgeon and they did an ultrasound which was clear. They said it sounded like nerve pain. To treat it I just need to apply voltarol etc to the area and see how I get on and that they couldn't tell me how long the pain would carry on for. It's so painful. It's already been over 2 months.. how much long should I expect it?

Any tips or information would be appreciated

So sorry you are suffering. I have an autoimmune neuropathy, which I had before my BC diagnosis. However, since my BMX I now have pain in my breast area. I know exactly how it feels. Maybe talk to your doc about nerve pain prescription drugs. Good luck and keeps posted.

Pink, I had a simple lumpectomy but still had nerve pain and tenderness off and on for 10 months. But the exercise prescribed helped a lot so don't forget to do those. It does get better!

my bmx was 1.5 years ago. To date, I still have occasional zaps that take my breath away. I know the feeling all too well. I wish I could say that it gets better, but I can’t. Just know that it happens occasionally.. not every day.

I had my UMX on October 25. In just the last few days I have a couple areas that I cannot even stand for a shirt to touch it. It seems like the skin is hyper- sensitive, I also get shooting pains that don’t last long at all but are probably nerves waking up. I hope this skin sensitivity doesn’t last!

The nerves that were cut are trying to reconnect. It's the weirdest sensation, like a ticklish pain, it used to make me jump😄 It'll go away

Seeing that this thread is active, I'll ask here:

I had BMX with tissue expanders in February, exchange to saline implant August 21st. Just today (almost two months after exchange) I started feeling zaps of pain in one of the "breasts". It's a pretty intense pain that lasts a second, then goes away completely, but repeats 10-15 times an hour. It's nowhere around the incision, it's right over where the implant is. It's in the left breast, at about 10 o'clock position, midway between the center of the breast and sternum, so upper inner quadrant. It's started this morning, and has been going on most of the day,. It's in one very specific spot, almost as if I pushed very deep with a finger and now it is bruised. The skin on top looks fine. I did breast exam the way I've been taught, and I can't feel any knots or hardness in that area, just a smooth muscle/implant (I have under the muscle implants).

Should I be worried or can this also be a nerve pain? I had some "zaps" of pain after mastectomy, but honestly can't remember how they felt like. This pain caught me by surprise, because I didn't experience any pain or even significant discomfort in the breast area itself after exchange.

I have had nerve pain ever since I had my double mastectomy in April 2018.  I have stinging and burning under my arms and I get a very hot, deep burn across my chest which most times happens in the middle of the night and becomes a severe hot flash.  However, the stinging/burning under my arms is very upsetting.  It is constant.  I take Lyrica two to three times a day and this helps quite a lot.  However, I am never without this nerve pain.  No doctor has been able to assure me that it will go away anytime soon.

Hi all, my nerve pain is still on going but a lot better. I was given galapentin but it didn’t suit me... I didn’t feel myself whilst taking them so I stopped. However know it has worked wonders for many who have tried it. I just felt too foggy and unbalanced and didn’t like that feeling. Since then I have been going down the natural route. I’ve been drinking turmeric milk aka golden latte (1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric in hot/warm skimmed milk-any milk is ok, sugar can be added but I don’t mind the taste anymore) on an empty stomach every morning and feel it so made a huge even difference. Also tried a gel on days I need to be nerve painless called flexiseq it’s non medical aka can be bought at a pharmacy not prescribed and also does wonders. I prefer all things natural. I have been back a few times and unfortunately the surgeon said they’d cant predict how long nerve pain can last
