Mammogram normal ultrasound normal but sore left breast?
Hi,
I am new her. About a month ago I started getting a sharp throbbing sore pain on the side under my left armpit into the side of my left breast... I consulted my obgyn and he felt nothing like he did back in March when I had the same issues. I was referred for an ultrasound back in March same as now and it was normal I was also sent for a diag mammogram that I just had done 2 days ago which showed normal. after the mammogram I was still having pain and 2 days later still. I have noticed veins one particular that hurts under the armpit and some weird redness above the armpit that the dr said they cannot see... I know I’m not crazy it’s there and the pain is real now it seems to go into my nipple once in awhile. I have no redness, thickening, discharge or anything abnormal on the breast. The more I touch it the more it hurts. I called my obgyn and he wants to see me this tues. should I demand a biopsy done? I’ve been reading a lot and the breast specialist told me that this is not ibc but how does she’s know without further testing? My anxiety is making me crazy and all I cannot do Is worry...

I had almost literally the same experience (and was still having pain, same location), and after trying Ibuprofen and then Mobic, my awesome doctor just prescribed Neurontin to see if it is nerve pain. After 5 days on a small dosage (300mg at night, every night), the pain is almost entirely gone. Toward the end of the day it sometimes creeps back in, but the relief is incredible. I am due for an MRI in early December (I'm a BRCA2 high surveillance girl), so they're going to take a closer look then as well.
I know what you're going through, hope you find an answer. You're not crazy, and don't let anyone treat you like you are.

Hi,
If they don’t see anything on imaging they may not want to do biopsy because they won’t know what to biopsy. Maybe an MRI might help?.....especially if you have dense breasts. We know our bodies and you should pursue this until you feel like you’ve been heard and you feel comfortable with what the doctor tells you

Hello I a new to this forum. I first noticed about 2 months ago my left Breast nipple was inverted. My Breast was also swollen and I had pain under my arm and my breast. I had a mammogram and ultrasound on 9/19. They were both normal but was referred to get a MRI. I had that done on 10/18 and the report was reported as normal. Still having pain and nipple still inverted and also large vein appeared and could be felt. Also a red area came up in that same area. I’m did a self referral to Moffitt in Tampa. 11/5 I had an appt they did 2 mammograms and an ultrasound. Results showed a suspicious mass measuring 8 millimeters with in distinct margins in the left breast upper quadrant at 1’oclock located 5 centimeters from the nipple. Nipple retraction in the left breast with no suspicious subareolar masses. They suggested an ultrasound guided biopsy. I went in today and the radiologist came in and said she was going to drain it and if she got it all a biopsy was not needed. She didnt have to do a biopsy and said she got all the fluid. I have an appointment at Moffitt with a breast surgeon on the 16th of this month for further evaluation. I don’t know why I am still having pain and don’t know what other evaluation can be done by the breast surgeon? I’m glad they said it was a cyst they drained but still concerned as to the other symptoms I am having.

Thank you all for the responses. I went back to my obgyn and again he didn’t see a concern but now he said I have a small nodule and wants to refer me to a pain specialist and have a 3D ultrasound of the left breast. I will go for the test this coming Monday. I feel like it’s a forever wait and the pain is not going away. I am very aware of my body and the pain I feel. I will be honest I’m terrified that a nodule was now felt after the mammogram and ultrasound? Could this be a cyst? The Dr. feels I’m feeling to much in that area and just leave it alone! They will not give me an MRI even though I requested it, that makes me very annoyed. I pay so much for insurance but yet I can’t have a test I want ?! Instead I get a 3D ultrasound does anyone know what that shows? Google isn’t helping...I’m just sick to my stomach over all this and my anxiety is Through the roof panic attacks every day and night.

Many insurance companies will not pay for an MRI until mammo, US and other more basic exams are performed first. They go by clinical indications for the exam and do not consider the patient's wishes in these matters, if they did most ins companies would go broke.
Even when indicated, it can come down to the way the mammo/US report and recommendations are worded. Sometimes it takes a call from the doc directly to the ins company to convince them its indicated.
