Biopsy scheduled 11/7/18
Hey everybody. Here is why I need to have a biopsy after my mammogram and ultrasound. I see what they mean by the waiting is the hardest part. I can handle whatever it is but I just want to know asap....,.
Ultrasound of the left breast reveals a large heterogeneous irregular shape hypoechoic mass at the 7 o clock position 1 cm from the nipple. It measures approximately 3.9 x 1.7 x 2.4 cm in size. There is a second irregular mass at the 7o clock position 6 cm from Thor nipple. It measures 1.4 x 0.9 x 1.9 cm. On the right axilla there is a pathologically enlarged lymph node which has a thickened cortex and measures 3.2 x 1.7 cm in size.
Assessment: B RADS 5

hello! I had my biopsy last Tuesday...so I am not too far from where you are. Have you had one before? Do you know which type of biopsy it is? Waiting is absolute torture. When you go, it might be helpful for you toget details about when and how you receive the results, so you know exactly what to expect. This really helped me when I was waiting for the biopsy results. Hugs to you. Sorry you have to be waiting here.
-
I have never ever had one before so not totally sure what to expect. I know they said it will be with a needle and ultrasound. I just want to know something good or bad.
-
I had an ultrasound guided needle biopsy also...and they did some lymph nodes at the same time. It isn’t too bad of a procedure pain wise, as they numb you up very well (at least that was my experience). Afterwards, you’ll want a comfortable sports bra type thing to avoid any underwire poking. I had a front close sports bra which worked great. A button down shirt is also good to have so you don’t have to put anything over your head. And I recommend using the ice packs that they give out.
I know you just want it over with and want to get your results. I had mine in about 24 hours. Hopefully yours will come in quickly

Thank you so much for the well wishes

Good luck tomorrow Tagevans
-
@CasM.... Thank you. I'm so nervous!
-
I have a biopsy tomorrow too, best of luck for both of us!
-
Jenniekay - Good luck and hope for B9 results !!
@Tagevans - I know what you mean. It is very nerve wrecking, just remember to think about one procedure at a time and try not to spin out of control. As you are getting your biopsy do some mindful breathing and think of happy thoughts or a happy place (me - the woods in spring with birds chirping and a babbling brook). As of now your situation is B9 and if it is something else then you can conquer it. I have an excision biopsy on 11/29 and I am trying not to think about it. Albeit I am researching this board and podcasts just to get knowledge, but not to paint a picture of a scenario for me yet .. not until I get my pathology from the biopsy.
Try to stay in the now and breath!
-
@jenniekay.... Good luck tomorrow. Mine is at 9am. What time is yours??
-
hoping for B9 for all of you!!!
-
@Tagevans.....8am......starting to get nervous, but I'm trying to remember it's better they want to make sure then miss something, good luck tomorrow

Please have them give you something like a xanax before your biopsy. I was great until after it was over. They thought I was having a stroke. Also, I made the mistake of going alone. Friend + Xanax.
-
You're not too far behind me and my procedures. I had a biopsy a couple of weeks ago. It was much easier than I thought. The clicking was the loud and upsetting part even though I didn't feel a thing. You can do it!
-
@duncmelsmom..... Did you get your results yet? If so how was it?
-
Hi casm I am having excisional wire guided biopsy tomorrow. If you want to know what to expect I am happy to share my experience. I Dont think it will be bad, I am more wondering about soreness after. Gets in the way of my leaf clean up lol
-
tbkk4m - Good luck today! Yes, please share your experience I would appreciate it. I still have a few weeks to wait and my mind in going in circles. I will be thinking of you today and hoping for B9 results and a speedy recovery.

hi casm. All done. I was given an Ativan about 40 min before going to mammogram. Definitely helped with the worrying. As for the mammo and getting wires put in, the squeezing on mammo was a bit painful. Seems like they squeezed more than all my past mammos. They used lidocaine to numb, quick little sting, not bad. The wires going in, felt some pressure, not pain. My boob kept rolling so they had to try a few times to get the right areas. My two areas were real close so they wanted to make sure they were both placed correctly. As for the surgery, I remember going in at 1:00 and then waking up in recovery about 3:00. No pain waking up but they told me when I got home meds would be wearing off and to alternate ibuprofen and xs tylenol. Woke up 3:30 this morning with pain and used ice pack and took the tylenol and it helped a lot. they gave me oxy but only to use if needed and I dont think I will need it. Definitely use the ice packs as much as possible and take the meds they tell you to. All in all, if I had to go again I would not be afraid this time since i know what to expect. The worst part for me is being home from work is wanting to go go go and get stuff done around here but the pain is reminder that i should take it easy. And when i say pain I am thinking soreness is a better word, nothing I can't handle. I think the surgeon said she would call with results in a week. The waiting was hard last biopsies but this time I promised myself to keep busy and not stress. Whatever the results stressing ahead of time won't change it. B9 for all of us hopefully!!!!
-
Tbkk4m - Thanks so much for the detailed experience description. Glad to know that you got Ativan and that the wire placement wasn't UBER painful but annoying it sounds. I already bought small 4 inch ice packs and a front close bra just in case for aftercare. How long are/were you off work? I am going in on Thurs (11/29) and thought I would go back to work on 4 Dec.
Happy Healing and I will be thinking happy thoughts for you to get B9 results. I have also learned that stressing ahead of time won't change a thing.

hey everybody I just wanted to give an update and I got my biopsy results back and it did show invasive ductal carcinoma
-
tagevans - I am so sorry the biopsy came back IDC. This board is a great resource and now that you know the enemy you can beat it. You are a WARRIOR!!
-
Hi Casm, I took off Friday and Monday (I dont work weekends) could've gone back Monday for sure but figured I should ay least get an extra day off out of this, lol. Still pain today but not killer or constant, just some random sharp stabbing here and there. I think if you have the time to take do it and if you feel better do something relaxing for yourself.
-
Sorry to hear this tagevans. Will be keeping you in my thoughts. 💖
-
Very sorry to hear, Tagevans. I also have IDC. We can fight together.
