Last year I've been diagnosed with grade 3 Dcis 1.5 mm, the only sign was 5 cm area of microcalcifications on mammogram. After the lumpectomy, I've done a reexcision due to a close margin wich came back clear in March this year. At my 6 months mammo after these 2 lumpies I've have another 1.6 c new area of suspicious calcification in the lumpectomy site. Now I decided to opt for a mastectomy and I am very anxious for the final pathology report. It coul be a reccurence in only 6 months?

It's most likely scar tissue. Scarring on mammogram looks like calcifications too. So, it's impossible for the radiologist to know if it is a cancer recurrence OR scarring from the lumpectomy. Please do keep us updated. We understand the worry.

Thank you so much for you reply. I've undergone a simple mastectomy this monday and the recovery was much easier compared with the previous two lumpectomies. Now hopping that the path report will be clear. I will update the rezults. God bless you

Why aren't you on AIS OR TAMOXIFEN to help guard against the cancer? You can always stop it if you can't tolerate the treatment. Grade threewould be of concern for for me.

JoE777 I am affraid of side effects, including hepathic toxicity since I generally try to avoid chemicals. I was told that even it was grade 3 there are only 1-2 % chances for a local reccurence and for contralateral breast is enough annual 3d mammo and ultrasound with elastography screening. Since Dcis can't reccur in the opposite breast I think it isn't very relevant that the initial Dcis treated with mastectomy was grade 3.
