I had a mammogram last year then a diagnostic mammogram & a sono. Dr saw calcifications said it was normal but wanted a follow up diagnostic mammogram in 6 months. Did the follow up and the Microcalcification had grown in size. So he order a biopsy for the following week. I had that done Friday. Now I am just waiting until Monday to get the results. I haven't told anyone in my family. BUT now I am wondering if I should take someone with me tomorrow for the results?? I don't want to worry anyone or inconvenience them, I am sure it is fine. BUT what if it isn't??*Do the calcification normally grow in size? What are they looking for when the did the follow up mammogram?

Sorry for rambling, I haven't talked about it! AND I just opened up the estimate BILL (I literally just had the biospy 2 days ago!) My out of pocket for the biospy is $3,150.52 WTH? 🙄

    Hi Watson1976

I think with micro calcifications they are looking to see if there are more of them or if they have evolved into certain patterns and shapes that are suspicious. If a biopsy was ordered then they saw something that they thought required it. If you had more microcalcifications in the same area than you did 6 months ago that might be it. Do you have a copy of your report? If not, you want to get that for your records.

It should tell you what Birad score they gave you (since they wanted a biopsy it was probably 4 or 5). It should tell you if the microcalcifications are in a small cluster or group or if they are spread through the whole breast. There should be some comment of the shape as well. That information is good to know but in the end only the biopsy results will tell you the big picture.

As far as taking someone with you, do you think you will need someone with you if the news isn't what you're hoping for? If you think you won't be able to drive or won't be okay, then yes, ask someone to go with you. I'm guessing there are people here who can give you better advice on this as my biopsy results will be given to me on Wednesday. I'm going to go alone but I don't live very far from the office so if it's bad news I won't have to go far. I also don't feel like I have anyone to ask to go with me. It would be a big inconvenience for anyone who I know to come to where I live. So this is probably something you have to decide based on what you are comfortable with.

Good luck and I hope things will be b9 for you!

    hi Watson,

I have expire ineed suspicious microcalcifications myself a few years ago. After 6 months watching they grew and more developed. I was given a birads 4b when I went in for a stereotactic biopsy. The radiologist felt there was a good change of their being cancer cells but it came back with no malignancy. Just usual hyperplasia. Sorry to stay calm there is a goo id chance it's fine but i know how hard it I see on wait. I would call and see if they are back, sometimes places get busy and may delay calling you. Good luck! Be sure and let us know when you find out

Thank you for your reply!! I feel like I will emotionally ok to go alone. BUT I have a huge family and I am more worried if it is cancer and didn't tell anyone they will be upset I didn't say anything. I don't know that sounds weird even saying it.

Why do you have to wait so long for your results? Where I am from the paper I was given said results are available the next day (mine was done on a Friday)

Hope it is all good for you too. I hope I can find you on here after that. I just signed up today and not too sure how all this works!! My email address is jamiesargent1976@gmail.com

I think when it comes to all of this, and the possibility of something this serious, you need to do what is right for you. If your family will be upset that needs to be something put out of your mind. If you feel like you need someone then tell someone otherwise tell them when you feel comfortable. We each have to walk our own path there.

My situation is a little unusual. I'm disabled and have a lot fo different things going on with me. I couldn't do a stereotactic biopsy because I couldn't lay on the table with my head turned. I have occipital neuralgia with other head and facial nerve issues so the table was not an option. So my breast surgeon decided to do an excisional biopsy, which was in the hospital under general anesthesia. That biopsy report usually takes a week to come back. I think it was actually less than that but the office called it a week. Then the only follow up appointment I could get was almost two weeks after. I could have driven to another town to get the results but I didn't want to do that.

As much as I want the results right away, I live alone and don't really have anyone to go with me or drive me. I am going to see if I can see my pathology report on my patient portal. It says that it is pending until Oct. 29. So there is a small chance I might have access to it. I have the hospital portal and I don't know if the surgeon or my doctor knows I have that access since it was from a previous surgery/other health issues.

I favorited your post so I will get a notification if you post on it. Here is my post. You can favorite it and you should get a notification on this website under your favorite topics. I'm pretty new here as well so Im not sure if that's the best way to keep up with other people or not. https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/62/topics...

You should go to the appointment no matter what. Don't trust the receptionist to not confuse you or your results with someone else. Go there. Get a copy of your report so you will remember what it says exactly once you get home.

I hope everything turns out just fine for you! I'm in the same boat as you are. New calcifications showed up on my mammogram and I also had a biopsy on Friday. This has been a long weekend of waiting. I was told I wouldn't get my results until Tuesday or Wednesday! So 2 more days of waiting for me!! Please keep us posted on your results!

so for whatever reason I had to make a new account, I couldn't log back in. 😶 My biospy came back cancerous. Ductal Carcinoma. They think they caught it early so I go Monday for a MRI and go from there.
