Mass on diagnostic mammo scared!!
Left the diagnostic mammo with the Dr. telling me “I would be shocked if it wasn’t cancer”. They apparently found something in my lymph nodes as well. Biopsy not scheduled until Monday. I’m terrified. Trying to work today and crying every few minutes. Why oh why do they make a person wait after saying something like that?????

That seems like a very insensitive and irresponsible thing to say as a doctor. They could have found a better way and nothing is for sure until the biopsy so that may have been a bit premature. I'm sorry you had that experience. Waiting is hard. I've been waiting awhile for my excisional biopsy results and by the time I get them at my appointment it will be almost two weeks. My original mammogram that showed microcalcifications was in August so this has been a very long time.
It is hard to wait and it really can be stressful. There really aren't words to ease the stress but you can try to indulge in the things you love and take a little extra care of yourself while you wait. Give yourself time for your hobbies, gardening, read, write, paint, go for walks, browse the bookstore, get a pedicure or a new hair cut. Whatever you enjoy, just do that.
Do you have a copy of your report? Do you know the details of what was found?
Hang in there. And good luck with your biopsy.
-
oh my gosh Sherri your waiting sounds horrible! I am thankful for your post because I see that you have indeed survived waiting. I can’t believe this all started in August for you. When do you go back?
I don’t have the report yet. It takes several days for it to be uploaded into the e-chart. My primary doc called and said that it’s a non palpable mass, with possible involvement in lymph node on the left side. That’s about all I remember. She also mentioned that the radiologist probably shouldn’t have “diagnosed” me without a biopsy. I love my doctor and I’m so glad she called me. Although the words of the radiologist have put terror into me, I know that I can’t know for sure until the biopsy is done. However...I think not knowing must in a way be worse than knowing.
Hugs to you and thank you for your support. Please post back and let me know what your results were, Sherri

Good you like your doctor. It's great to download a copy of your report for your records when it becomes available on your e-chart. Even if you are b9 now, it will be helpful in the years to come in case you are ever confronted with another breast situation. You will have all the details.
My appointment with the breast surgeon to get my results is Wednesday (Halloween!). The waiting has been trying but ever since the biopsy I will admit knowing the results are out there in the world makes me feel more anxious. I've been doing my research, which makes me feel better. I feel like I am knowledgable now and I have some idea of the possibilities. I also know my odds are good. My bigger concern is that I am already disabled and have health issues that may end up limiting how I would treat it if it does turn out to be cancer.
I know a lot of people advise not to google or read too much, which I understand because people can really freak themselves out, but for me, I've been dealing with medical issues a very long time and I need to do the research so I have some sense of understanding and control.
Not knowing is very challenging. I'm binging a lot of tv shows to keep distracted!
Keep us posted on what you find out! Thank you for your support as well!

I was able to access my pathology report early on the hospital portal. It looks like ADH: atypical ductal hyperplasia. So I'm relieved for now. I will talk to my breast surgeon on Wednesday to see if she has any concern based on the other details on my report. It was good to finally be done waiting to know!
-
Sherri this seems like good news! I know you’ll feel even better when you have your appointment. Hopefully your Halloween will be happy
-
Thank you. Yes good news! Did you have your biopsy today or is it next Monday?
-
Wigging, how awful for you. this is not good protocol by radiologist.
I hope the biopsy went smoothly. Do let us know how it all goes.
sending gentle cyber hug.
-
Good radiologists DO tell you if the believe it to be cancer based on the imaging. I personally would be glad to be able to prepare myself to ne diagnosed
-
My biopsy was scheduled for next Monday...I really didn’t think I’d make it through a week wait for the procedure! Fortunately I asked to be put on the cancellation list...they called me late today and I’m able to in tomorrow (Tuesday the 30th). Very thankful and cautiously optimistic that I’ll have at least results by the end of the week.
I had a stereotactic biopsy last November. This one is an ultrasound guided one...they tell me it isn’t as bad.
I have mixed feelings about the radiologist. I’m not opposed to honesty, but to tell you that and shoo you out the door with an appointment scheduled for a week later was pretty intense.
I am definitely trying to prepare myself for what seems likely according to the radiologist. It’s just the waiting, which I know will continue. Give me a plan and I’ll tackle it....I just want to know the plan
-
That is so great you were able to get it moved up. Keep us posted!
-
Good luck Wigging
I had a stereotactic biopsy Oct 17 and it turned out to be ALH (atypical lobular hyperplasia) (10/22) . I saw the BS yesterday (10/29) and I will be getting a wire guided excisional biopsy. I am not sure of the date yet, the nurse navigator will be calling to set up a date. I know how you feel with the waiting and just take it one procedure at a time. I was driving myself crazy with the "what ifs" I decided for my state of mind to not think ahead but to focus my energy on what is happening "right now". I will thinking positive thoughts that your results are B9. Again, Good luck today!
-
thank you CasM! I hope you get your date soon. I am done with my biopsy and resting. Had a good talk with radiologist (a different one today) about what comes next and I feel a little better. If it is not benign, the nurse navigator will be the one to call me and talk about next steps. I was really anxious about getting a cold phone call from a radiologist, which is what happened last year with my benign results.
Trying to stay in the right now..
-
thinking of you Wigging. Was trying to remember if stereotactic or u/s guided biopsy was worse...rather like child birth, I seem to have blocked a lot of it out!
I remember sore and bruising with both. The main thing is hopefully a good result for you. So to get this right, you would not be called in for meeting with B.S. but a nurse would tell you? On the phone? I am starting to think the system in the U.S. is really different from Aus. The way I would know if it was not good news, would be the nurse nav. would call and ask if I would like to bring someone along with me to the surgeon's meeting...
Mmhmm..yep. you get the drift.
seems rough over there if the radiologist can just drop a bomb like that with no support for you. I still think it is unethical dallas....sorry to disagree with you.
without a biopsy it is just an opinion. No more or less.and even if informed opinion there should be definite protocols about how and when the news that you have cancer is given. (Just my two cents worth)
Anyway waiting right alongside you wiggings.
We are all here for you.
Xx

Thank you Astrid!
The doctor today told me just that the mass is highly suspicious...those words seemed a little kinder. Doing ok as far as pain today. They did armpit area for lymph nodes and breast...ouch.
Yes, as I understand it the nurse navigator will call if it is not benign. So...female voice bad news male voice good news in this case. They said it would be tomorrow afternoon or Thursday when I get the call.
Thank you for waiting with me...hugs.

right here xx
-
Wigging - thinking of you!! Hoping for B9 results. You are getting your results quick!!! I hope to get my next appt for the excision biopsy today!!!
-
CasM hope you get that appointment!!! Every little step seems to take part of the anxiety away for me, at least for a little bit. Right now I have moved on to obsessively waiting for my phone to ring. I went about 24 hours before starting that obsession ;
-
Good luck with the biopsy cas..hope you are getting it very soon.
-
got the phone call from the female voice...at least I knew right away when I heard her voice.
The good news...Cancer not present in the lymph nodes they biopsied, but they want to test more of them. I meet with the cancer team tomorrow at noon...I will know much more then.
-
I am moving over to the just diagnosed section...thank you ladies for waiting with me...love to all of you and good thoughts to those still waiting
-
