Waiting for Biopsy Results

Biopsy was done on a cluster of micro Calcifications yesterday by my BC surgeon. Hopefully I will have results by Halloween. I’m a little nervous about what the outcome will be. These just showed up on my mammogram this year & supposedly they were not there last year. This year I did upgrade to a 3D mammogram & I do have dense breasts so I guess they could have been hard to see until now. I also had a biopsy in 2015 in the same breast which revealed a scherosing papillary lesion. Anybody out there had anything similar that was diagnosed as cancer. I guess knowing I have had 1 issue already which supposedly is benign has me scared these new abnormal findings could be early cancer. I’m trying to stay positive but I will admit I’m scared.

    Hi Judben,

I know this process takes a lot of patience, and it’s not easy! Many of us who had calcifications went on to be diagnosed with breast cancer, but many times it’s not cancer. It sounds like your doctors are being thorough. It seems like they aren’t seeing any large masses, so that’s good. Try to hang on to the positive thoughts, hopefully you can rest easy soon

    Good Morning Judben

I had a stereotactic biopsy 10/17 for microcalcs that were not seen last year as well. I was diagnosed with atypical lobular hyperplasia and will see the breast surgeon today to get a way forward. I have been told that I may need an excisional biopsy (lumpectomy) to get a bigger area to test pathologically to make sure nothing is lurking around the area.

I know that waiting is hard. I had someone tell me during my wait - "Answers are good regardless of what they are because they are the start to a path, a plan forward. You can't conquer the unknown."

It helped me so much. I will be thinking of you and hoping for B9 results !!

Judben63 - saw the BS and she said I would definitely need a wire guided excisional biopsy. She said the reason my microcalcs were suspicious were the way they presented and not all calcs are even suspicious and go on to a regular biopsy. She explained to me the surgery process, showed me my microcalcs from the mammogram (3D) and gave me the percentages. 5-10% of the biopsies are upgraded to cancer. So fingers crossed after the biopsy the path shows B9. Thinking of you during this waiting process.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate you giving me more information. Do you have a date yet on the next biopsy? I sure hope you get good results on your next one. This waiting is about to get me!! How long was it before you got your first results from your first biopsy? When I get home I want to read about your first results.

    hello!

I am having a biopsy tomorrow...new mass found on my left side during screening mammo, then do mammo and U/S today.

I do have a positive story regarding calcifications. I had a stereotactic biopsy last fall on my right breast due to suspicious calcifications. It was benign and this year my right breast passed the screening!

So I am sort of waiting with you, although my procedure (for this go-round) is tomorrow.

Hoping for the best news possible for you!!

OMG!! I’m so excited! My Dr called tonight & my biopsy was benign. I’ll have a follow up appointment in 6 months! But I will take it! Thank you everyone who sent well wishes. Now to live a healthier lifestyle and be a non smoker in 6 months.

I'm so happy for you ❤ if you don't mind me asking...do you remember the description of what your microcalcifications looked like? Were they linear, pleomorphic...etc?

My report only said a new cluster of Microcalcifications. It didn’t give a descriptive. Thank you for your well wishes. I think I will keep coming here to this site. I’ve learned a lot about BC the last 12 days while I was waiting. I never knew until now what women really have to go thru. I’m amazed at the courage these women have. Hope you are doing well
