9 days post PBMX
Hi all, this is my 9th day post pbmx and I would like to share my experience. I couldnt be happier.
I had ns pbmx with direct silicone implants with alloderm under pec. It hasnt been as painful as I thought, I think my caesarean was worst.
I am out of pain drugs and only taking antibiotics ( I need to wear the drains during 4 weeks) my amazing surgeon told me he is aware of there have been terrible results with alloderm if the drains are removed before, due to infections or rejection.
Yesterday I had the bandages removed and I could see my new boobs, well I dont know why I say new because they seem exactly the same than before, probably better, more filled.
And I am absolutely amazed, I feel my skin perfectly the same as before. I was really worried reading many cases you loose the feeling or the nipples. My operation was made from the nipples and I was really worried about loosing them. But they are pink, of course swollen but they look like pink and healthy.
My mastectomy+ reconstruction took 9 hours but I feel so blessed my surgeon is so good. The nursery told me he is a perfectionist and it took him so many hours because he tried to avoid cutting any nerves, thats why I can feel all my boobs.
Please, take into account that my operation was preventive, no cancer yet.
My surgeon also told me I am having this amazing results because I am not smoker and my blood supply is good. So, please, please, if you are considering any kind of surgery dont smoke or leave it at least one month before and one month later.
I am not drinking any caffeine as well (coffee, coke) as I read is not good as well for blood supply.
I am very happy because I cannot see any rippling. It seems my surgery is like breast aumegtation instead a mastectomy.
I would also recommend if you are going to have this surgery, please go to a surgeon with references.
After all the fear, anxiety and stress and sadness I had previous to the surgery, now I couldn be happier, not only with peace of mind ( this was my main objective) but now also with the results.
Best luck to all of you

I forgot to mention I do not have a single bruise. Except for the swollen nipple, they look like absolutely perfect.
And I had many bruises when I had my first biopsy and also when I had my vacuume excise.

That is great to hear! I'm having PBMX, nipple sparing, on 11/12 and so happy to hear about good results. I'm having pre-pectoral TE with Alloderm, versus direct to final implant. Interesting to hear about having drains for 4 weeks when having Alloderm - first time I've heard anything about that. How much drainage do you have each day? I'd read that having drains in for more than 3 weeks can increase your chance of infection. Your only incision was at nipple? Mine will be around the top half of areola and then extending out laterally (BS said that is the best incision to give full access to all tissue for removal, which is what the point of this surgery is), and I'm a little worried about nipple necrosis. BS said he will be leaving 1 cm of skin flap everywhere and 2 cm at nipple, so hopefully that helps with blood flow to the area. I'm starting to up my protein level and have already been taking Vit. C supplements to help with healing. How much activity and arm movement are you doing at this point?

Stherye I am so thrilled that you are progressing well from your surgery. Please keep us updated on how you do. I had BMx but cancer was involved. There was no aggressive attempt to save nerve endings, rather to make sure all breast tissue was removed. I hope you continue to heal well.

Dear Borogirl,
Sorry because English is not my language and I cannot express myself as I would like to do.
Mi incision was around the bottom half of the areola (so quite similar to yours but the opposite) and extending out vertically. I was extremely worried about nipple necrosis as well, but even though my surgery lasted 9 hours, my nipples are great, pink colour and healthy. My BS suggested vit E & C after surgery for healing and eating more meet & fish for proteins.
I am 42 years old and I am doing great. I will ask him again for the drains. Firstly he told me 3 weeks, but in my revision he said 4 weeks, another Surgeon came to see my results and they looked at each other saying they were amazed, no bruises, and then they told me about was dangerous to removed drains before 3/4 weeks with alloderm. I will be taking antibiotics during this time, so I guess that will reduce infection risk, but I will ask him again just in case.
I am having 25 ml each day for the deep drains and 2ml for the superficial ones. I have 4, 2 from each side, they are near to my armpits.
I am doing normal activity at home but doing things carefully and I dont pick up heavy things, of course. And I am working with my laptoc from home.
Dear Rah, I can understand your situation. If I have done this as a prevention, I would have done the same for cancer even if it mean losing sensibility. Peace of mind is the most important thing to me.

Hi Stherve,
How long after your surgery could you work on a computer? I'm worried I may be out of work too long.
In two weeks I'm having a nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy and a prepectoral breast reconstruction. I will initially have a balloon type insert which they will fill with saline until the proper size it met. These will be replaced with a silicone implant. I may lose my nipples due to the fact I've had three surgeries already to remove the cancer. I am considering to just be done with nipples too.

Dear Crossh,
Sorry to hear this is your third surgery.
After one week I was working from home with my laptoc. And my surgery was under pec and it is more painful.
I am sure you could also work the second week from home.
I was very worried and sad before the surgery, thinking about loosing my beautiful breast and thinking how the results would be. But now what I think is...if I had known about this result, I would have done this even before.
Sorry I dont know about nipples with some surgeries but what I know reading through these forums is that nowadays nipple reconstruction are amazing also.
I wish you the best.

Thank you, glad you’re doing so well. Yes it is a difficult decision, but I also think I will be grateful in the long run.
