Hi Everyone -

I work for an organization called Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. Making Memories is a non-profit organization dedicated to granting last wishes for men and women suffering from metastatic stage IV breast cancer. Since its founding in 1998, Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation has developed various fundraising divisions including Brides Against Breast Cancer, Pink Envelope Project, Quilters Against Breast Cancer and Diamonds for Dreams. These divisions support wish fulfillment and various educational programs of the foundation.

We are looking to grant wishes for people with stage IV breast cancer.  Could you please help spread the word and direct deserving individuals to our website at www.makingmemories.org to secure a wish packet.

We are also looking to grant wishes in the cities that our largest fundraiser, Brides Against Breast Cancer, will be visiting. Please visit www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org for a list of our Brides Against Breast Cancer charity gown sales.

Please let me know if you'd like more information.  Thanks!

Brittney

Not to be too much of a bitch about this -- but I looked at your website.  It's a good idea, kind of like a make-a-wish is for kids, this is for families losing a mom or spouse or whatever.

But.  Why does the person have to sign their privacy away?  I understand how it is nice to publicize your wishes, but requiring families to relase their photographs, and other details of their "wish"?  That just feels icky to me.  I'm sure many grateful families would be willing and eager to share their stories, but make it their choice.  Not yours.

    Hi MJLToday -

We are very sensitive to our wish recipients and we would never take advantage of someone or make them feel bad.  When we publicize wishes, we usually don't give full names.  We release their first name, what their wish was, the part of the country they're from and we show pictures. Our purpose is never to take advantage of people or exploit them.  We do this to protect our organization.  By using their story, we can help others.

Wishing for a cure now seems out of reach...or not.  But as I am thinking about it...there are a few things left on my bucket list from my first go round with this crap 10 years ago...I have been to Disney World...never to Disney Land in California.  The bucket list item is to see the west coast of the US.  Hummm.  And if I am prepared to put myself out on this crazy calendar idea of mine...my privacy is not going to be so 'private' for too long - what the hay...maybe I should do this anyway..thanks for the bump up WingsofHope  - I was rather negative on this a month ago - looks different now.

I wish I had enough power to banish sadness from the eyes of my 6 years old child. I want to see my son finishing school. He wants to be a doctor to cure his mother. I WANT MY LIFE BACK!

My concern is the fine print:

As a Wish-Recipient of this program and to enable your wish to be granted in a more timely manner, you may start a fundraising campaign or Making Memories Breast Cancer FoundationTMmay begin a fundraising campaign, in your community, with your prior approval by initializing this paragraph. PLEASE NOTE: Only Making Memories Breast Cancer FoundationTM may make a request on behalf of a wish or memory-making event. If the Wish-Recipient, friend, family member, or anyone having knowledge of this request uses the name "Making Memories" or "Making Memories Breast Cancer FoundationTM" to solicit support, except with Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation'sTM express, advanced, written permission, your request for a wish will be immediately disqualified. Suggested sources of funding and/or airline miles or tickets include Wish-Recipient's loved ones, family, friends, local businesses, current and former employers for Wish-Recipient and spouse/significant other, school and organizations to which the Wish-Recipient belongs or has belonged."

So if I, the terminally ill, agree to raise funds for my wish in "Making Memories" name it is ok. If I exploit my child who has been clinically diagnosed as off the charts anxiety, for funds it ok.

It sounds like I get a reward of a wish if I beat the drum for Making Memories,MM keeps any $$ donated that exceeds the cost of my wish. Wouldn't it be easier to do my own fund raiser? Then I better control over my childrens' privacy.

I would love to do this but I feel my children's names and images exploited all over the local media, which we have to disclose six media outlets, is wrong. Don't we hate Kate Gosselin for this?

Also on the website, first and last names are listed in the wishes granted section. Furthermore, many of the recipients full addresses are on the scrapbook pages. Did they ok this? Do they know about it? Can I apply and not have my last name and my address published?

Humm...sounds like I should just have my own fundraiser...and drive my rv there myself - less stress and less taxing - and no time restraints on how long I stay.  Thanks for reading what I didn't pattih!

Thank you everyone for your support - we really appreciate it!  We just want to provide an opportunity for metastatic breast cancer patients' dream or wish to be fulfilled by providing a special time together with their families.

Dreamwriter - Sorry, we don't know of a Canadian version of this.

Lowrider54 - We are glad you changed your mind!  If you are interested in receiving a wish, please visit our website at www.makingmemories.org to secure a wish packet.

Wait, if you raise money for them your wish "will be granted in a more timely fashion?"  Not only that, if you don't start your own fundraising campaign, they will in your community (using your name).  This isn't free.

Perhaps MMBCF should read replies-Lowrider hasn't changed her mind, as she has now read the small print and realises how awful this whole process actually is. Thank heavens we don't have things like this in the UK-the outrage would be huge.

I wish that there was a cure for this dreadful disease. To take the pain away from my family. I wish to see my youngest daughter graduate college, to see her get maried and to see her give me grandbabies. so much more. It's the little things that matter.  I wish that it wasn't such an expensive disease and that so many people were making money at our expense. Oh I could wish for more. My mother allways told me don't wish so hard you just wish it away. "BREASTCANCER IS ONE I JUST ONE WISH,  I COULD WISH AWAY.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hhhmmmmmm, I am not sure what all the negativity is about.  I didn't do any fundraising, nor did the organization in my name.

I received my check for $1000 this evening and I will gladly spend some of it next week making memories with my kids in Myrtle Beach.  Then I think I will go to Jamaica with another Stage 4 friend.

I wish for a cure, I wish to see my kids get married, and all the above.... truly I do!!!   but TODAY I am thankful for the extra money to do special things with those I love, while I can.

    Thank you!!!!

Oh, my..I was so glad to find out about wishes being granted to adults and specifically to those of us with stage IV metastatic breast cancer.

My insurance is Medicaid, a.k.a., population control. Im given standard care at least cost to the gov. I'm halfway through the "standard" treatment plan allowed by medicaid and was told "if it works" I'll possibly have a year.A huge wish, would be that no one would have to be treated this way.

I worked 14yrs as a federal law enforcement officer before having to separate from service in 2015. I was not medically released before I ran out of all leave after a second cervical disc surgery and pending lumbar procedures. (physical abuse by ex husband).

I had great insurance. I had no clue how those who depend on Medicaid are given a glimmer of hope by their doctors/specialists, who know full well they are only given the "standard/acceptable" treatment options.

I guess my wish would be for a paid year of good medical insurance to at least be followed up with a PET scan instead of waiting for the cancer to grow and spread so far that treating it again would be impossible....
