Treating ADH borderline DCIS

Hi all,

I have a second recurrence of adh borderline dcis. I met with a new doctor who specializes in young women. She says she treats young patients with borderline cases as though they have dcis. For my case, she says I have the option of lumpectomy and radiation or mastectomy. Given the area of abnormal cells would require cells would require 1/4 of my breast to be removed, she recommends mastectomy.

I was not expecting this at all and feel like I've been knocked off my feet. Just wondering if anyone has a similar situation and how you weighed the benefits. I'm feeling in denial and anxious after reading about complications from both and fearful that my condition has progressed to something worse. And also feeling cursed that no matter what, it will come back.

Of course I am also holding out hope that another surgeon will give a less dire treatment plan. I'm 32, married and trying to not totally lose it. I have no family history, genetic tests came back negative.

Thanks
