Weakness in Muscles in Legs

Options

Hello

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 in March 2018. Had my first treatment and ended up in the hospital. Lost complete muscle tone being in bed. Made it through all my chemo and now a few weeks out from surgery. Over the last 2 weeks my strength has declined that I can no longer stand on my own or walk. Dr thinks that now that chemo stopped I’ll start to feel better. Been doing physio but I’m scared that I won’t ever be able to walk again. Has anyone experienced this to this degree that they can no longer walk? I’m scared that I won’t ever walk. I don’t care if I walk with a walker or supported but I need to walk. Any advice?!!!

I'm sympathetic! I also experienced leg weakness, but not from chemo or inactivity. Turns out I had a compressed disk which was laying on the nerves that go down the leg. It has been a long process (about 3 years) but through physical therapy and time (and 2 back surgeries) I've recovered so that I can now walk with a cane. I went through the walker phase for so long I thought I'd never get better, but little by little I did. I do take gabapentin to diminish the nerve tingling and that has helped too.

If it's just a matter of getting "reconditioned" you are fortunate. Exercise, exercise, exercise will do it.

Thank you WinningSoFar. How would I know if it is in fact a compressed disk? I am just going by what the doctors said. He said if in a few weeks I dont feel better he will do an MRI but I rather not wait. What are some symptoms? This is such a nightmare and I hope that it is just deconditioning. I have been in a chair for weeks and literally cannot walk. It is scary. Any tips for my upcoming surgery? It will be a full masectomy. I am already so weak that I hope the surgery does not set me back. Looks like my surgery is similar to what you had in 2012. Any suggestions or things to avoid or things to do to help? Thank you so much!

Not sure if you are still on here, I was wondering if you ever had that MRI. I have leg weakness from chemo-induced-peripheral-neuropathy, but I can walk. I just can't walk at the pace or distance I used to walk. I hope your muscles have woken up by now?
