For the past 3 or so months, my left nipple has been very dry and flaky at times. The center of the nipple also looks like it has a small crack or divot in the center of it. There is no discharge, redness, or itching and I also have no history of eczema. I have tried several different creams but all that helps is lanolin and I am not remotely breastfeeding. I am 37. There is no lump in this breast and the nipple looks relatively normal. It does seem to peel more the more I handle it. I mentioned it to my ob who told me she didn’t know what would cause 1 nipple to peel. I’m not sure if it’s pagets or what it is? Anyone have any experience with this or pagets and how did it present? I do have pain in the nipple area but it tends to be around my periods..

Good for you for paying attention to your body! What you describe may or may not be Paget's. Mine was Paget’s but many health professionals didn’t recognize it, and it took me about a year to find a doctor who knew what Paget’s looks like, and she confirmed the diagnosis. This was the second time I had cancer in that breast, my first time was DCIS only, the second time was Paget’s and DCIS, and because my surgeon checked for and found DCIS in the other breast, I chose a double mastectomy with no reconstruction, and she was my surgeon. It will be six years in January, and I am glad I kept looking for someone to confirm a diagnosis.

Ssl9281 - I first noticed something was not right with my left nipple last July. It took until October 16th for a confirmed diagnosis. A mammogram and ultra-sound both missed the DCIS and Paget diagnosis that I got. Pagets can only be diagnosed by a punch biopsy so I strongly suggest having one if you continue to have concerns. Both my Gynecologist and Dermatologist did not think it was Pagets as my symptoms were very mild. No bleeding or itching, more flaking than anything. I tried both over the counter and prescription creams before pushing for the biopsy. It was the MRI that I had after that diagnosis that confirmed the DCIS. I had a BMX with direct to implant last Nov and had a fairly easy recovery and am super happy with my decision. Hoping what your experiencing is nothing more than skin irritation but press for answers if it doesn't resolve.
