Adjuvant TCHP?
Comments

thanks BarredOwl, yes my case does not apply to the trial.

I am completing my 6th round of TCHP on Monday. I just had a discussion with my Onco this past Monday about continuing the Perjeta along with tne Herceptin for the full year.
She did state that the study showed only a minimal positive effect, but I will take all I can get.
The diarrhea is brutal but manageable with Immodium.

2westies,
i,too at one point wanted to continue perjeta along with herceptin but insurance will not cover it adjuvantly since its only a trial.but a few have managed to get it covered by insurance. congrats on finishing tchp!goodluck!!!!

THP vs TCHP
Does anyone know of journal articles, websites et al that compares the efficacy of THP with and without carboplatin?
I'm having bi-lateral mastectomies next week and will start chemo/immuno infusions in 5 or 6 weeks. My medical oncologist recommends the TCHP combo for 6 cycles and Herceptin for a year.
My friends who have had a variety of oncology treatments say that carboplatin has more ugly side effects. Since I'm having the mastectomies, I'm wondering if the carboplatin is really necessary.
I appreciate suggestions and comments.
Best to all

bubbe - it's hard to answer since you haven't posted your diagnosis with all the specs, sizes, grades, etc. If you go to my profile, you can enter that information & make it public.
With no other specifics about your particular cancer, yes carboplatin is hard, but it is part of the gold standard. You should discuss this in detail with your MO before you get started. What your friends have done may not be appropriate for your specific diagnosis and he/she can tell you why.
Since you're HER2+, I wonder why they aren't doing chemo first?

Hi MinusTwo,
I just finished adding the diagnoses and treatments info. I chose to do surgery before chemo. I was told that I had a preliminary/pre-surgery Stage 2A diagnosis that may be reclassified if they found lymph node involvement from biopsies performed during the mastectomies.
My mom, aunt and at least one cousin died from breast cancer. However, I didn't have any of the 17 gene mutations that were assayed.
My new diagnosis occurred two days after my 5-year end of treatment cancerversary. LOL
Thanks!
