Lump after Negative MRI

Hello,

In July I had a bilateral screening MRI due to being high risk. I have annual mammograms and I am 42 years old. My mother is a breast cancer survivor.

My MRI in July was negative, hooray! About a week ago I found a new lump on my upper left breast. It seemed to coincide with the onset of my period, but did not go away when my breast swelling went down after my period started a few days ago. I have a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound scheduled but it's not for 2.5 weeks (why does it have to be soooo far away?!)

I'm pinning all my hopes on the quite recent negative MRI and negative mammogram and ultrasounds from last year, but is it possible for a cancerous lump to grow so quickly? Does that make sense? I have had many cysts seen on mammogram/us, but never one that I can feel.

Just looking for any insight or thoughts to keep me from going off the rails while I wait for my appointment. Thank you!

    Things can grow fast. I have many lumps (benign, one a bit mysterious), with four I can feel. They seriously feel like they just sprang up overnight - though not all at once, thank goodness! It's great you're having a check.

    Waiting is the difficult part of it all. In my own situation, I went from initial doctor's appointment to core biopsy within two weeks. It was high speed but waiting between appointments and to get results was hard. What helped me was keeping as busy as I could and trying to live as normally and as positively as I could - in other words, not diagnosing myself. And I stayed away from Google.
