How many times a recurrence can occur? Any idea?

Mastectomy left breast for DCIS Apr 2002, completed chemo and Mastectomy right breast for IDC and ILC Apr 2004, completed chemo. Now two small cancerous lumps show up on the remainding right breast tissue. Dr. will remove the two lumps on 22 Jan. Just wonder if anyone has similiar situation.

I just started to read this book 'Your Life in Your Hands' by Jane Plant. She was initially diagnosed in 1987 and had total 5 recurrences until 1993. Keep in mind this was many years ago when treatments were different.

I only at page 80 but I'm reading this book because her goal is/was to stop her BC recurrences. I haven't gotten to the detailed chapters yet on diet but she already mentioned a change to stop eating dairy products. She did a comparison to low BC in women in China and Japan who do not consume dairy products at all. Hope this helps. Joann

Don't know the answer to your original question but have done extensive research on diet/dairy. Dairy is actually a poor source of calcium because not only does it contain hormones that you don't want but also it makes your body acidic and thus leeches calcium from your bones in an attempt to make your body more alkaline. Many vegetables contain calcium (broccoli comes to mind) and of course, you can supplement. (2 time survivor)

I am reading a book called "The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to Breast Cancer" by Sat Dharam Kaur. This book suggests its not so much the "dairy" but the crap they are injecting and feeding the cows with. The steriods and growth hormones that are pumped into the cows. I think an approach of holistic medicine mixed with western is not a bad idea. Next time you go shopping, look at all the "garbage" people have in their cart, and eventually in their bodies. Pretty gross!!

Catalin - the title and author of the book is 'Your Life in Your Hands' by Jane Plant. However, if you do a GOOGLE search on her name you will find many articles and opposed to her book. I can understand her logic for the presense in the hormones in red meat and dairy but I find it hard to believe as total prevention.

That said - - since the recent articles about stopping HRT related to a drop in breast cancer rates, I'm waiting to see a more direct link associated to oral contraceptives in premenopause women with hormone receptor positive BC. I took oral contraceptives for at least 8-9 years and am absolutely convinced it was the fuel/cause of my breast cancer. I have no family history of cancers (heart disease, diabetes) and I was never a big red meat eater. Funny I was big on dairy as a kid but also know others who are older than me and still big dairy consumers without heatlh issues. Joann
