I've had this darn drain for 5 wks. My dr said he is pulling it Monday no matter what the output. Iam still draining high 30's, low 40's daily!

Anyone else have drain pulled without being at the recommended output?

LBG10 - I was still having at least 30 cc’s still draining from one of my tubes and the PS pulled it anyway at week 4.  The next day liquid started pouring out of the hole left by the tube and I saturated 8 paper towels.  They weren’t concerned and that was last and only time happened.

LBG10 the concern with leaving the drains in for a long time is possible infection.

I hope the fluid is slowing down for you.

Oh my. I'm so sorry you had that stupid drain in for so long. So far, I've had a total of 5 drains (initial surgery, TE removal b/c of infection, and TE placement). I just got my drain from my last surgery out last week. It was in for 2 1/2 weeks and still at 40cc, but my PS said he would rather deal with a seroma than an infection. And, my fills seemed to stop the output because I'm a week out now and fine. I really hope that you're feeling better. Update when you can.

As the others said, leaving a drain in for too long is begging for an infection to settle in.

On the other hand, if after it's pulled you feel you get a seroma, be VERY adamant on having it drained. Post seroma scars are really nasty to deal with.
