Who had biopsy come back Complex Sclerosing Lesion
I had been told that they thought I had breast cancer. i had a 3D mammo, dignostic mammo , ultrasound. Ultrasound backed up what they saw on mammos. They gave me BIRAD 5.
Had ultrasound guided core biopsy. They took 5 samples. Came back Complex Sclerosing Lesion measuring 1.2 cm, and involving multiple cores. Sclerosing adenosis, florid duct hyperplasia and apocrine metaplasia. Microcalcifications identified. ( I dont know what those are? Anyone know?? )Original radiologist said before I had biopsy that she was so sure that if biopsy came back negative she would still recommend remove it bc she thought it was THAT suspicious.
My question is who has had this CSL come back on biopsy, did you have removed and what was the outcome?
Problem is I'm adopted... I have no family history and I feel like I'm shooting in the dark.

i see there are no responses to your post. Are you comfortable with the biopsy result?

Aww thank you Grammy2be for replying... this can feel like some lonesome business! I dont know how i feel about biopsy results. I was so shocked about everything (this was my first mammo) it moved so fast. The radiologist & staff was soooo certain. It's The Mayo Clinic so I supposed they knew what they were seeing. Her saying that if biopsy came back negative she would be uneasy about result and insist it was removed. I want to super excited about b9 biopsy... but I'm still a little scared. I crazily had a stroke 2 months ago and with this unexpected journey added on top has just left me.... spinning?! I don't know what to think.

I had CSL show up on biopsy in Feb. (with florid usual type hyperplasia and columnar cell lesions with focal atypia) and had left side lumpectomy in March that got all margins. Even though there was no malignancy BS said they always want to remove those. In June a right side core needle biopsy showed extensive sclerosing adenosis that was removed in full by the biopsy. Because of these warning episodes, and some family history (negative for BRCA mutations) I am having a prophylactic BMX next month. Very lucky to have has these warning events so I can take the steps to avoid cancer. Most women don’t have that opportunity. Wishing you the best on your journey and decisions

"Did you have removed and what was the outcome?"
Yes they were removed, no cancer found in pathology report. LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ was found). Despite the word carcinoma, it is not cancer. Hyperplasia was found. I got 3 opinions on the biopsy and all 3 agreed.
My opinion is that it is best to have this removed so that it does not become cancer and because sometimes (like 15% of the time) these abnormalities can hide cancer. Best to be sure. Good luck to you, Twin.

Thank you Lea7777 so your original biopsy result showed lcis... or biopsy after it was out?
-
Sorry it took so long to respond, Twinmama. The excisional biopsy showed LCIS, which was removed as part of a radial scar. However I probably have LCIS in other areas, in both breasts. If it shows up on one area, LCIS is likely to be present elsewhere, but only more biopsies would likely show it because imaging does not usually reveal LCIS.

I had a biopsy come back earlier in the year as CSL. I scheduled the excisional biopsy and when they went to put the wire in and do a pre-op mammo, they found another (they did not know it at the time). They cancelled my surgery and I had another biopsy in the second location the next day, which also came back as CSL. My doctor decided she didn't want to start removing pieces of me and suggested an MRI, which my insurance denied. So for now we are just watching it. I will have another mammo in Dec and we will go from there.

riverdogmom... yikes 2 biopsies!😣 I did NOT like the biopsy and would NOT want to do again! I hope you get what treatment you need.. keep us posted!😊

hi twinmama, I had negative biopsies earlier in the month one showed sclerosing adenosis fibroadenomatoid nodule usual ductal hyperplasia duct ectasia and microcyst with rare foreign body giant cells present, I will be having a wire guided surgical excision on that next week. I have a small papilloma which they will also remove. Last but not least I have two other masses that they say is benign breast tissue with cysts showing apocrine metaplasia, adenosis and a fibroepithelial lesion with features most consistent with a tubular adenoma - those will be followed up with another MRI in a year. For me I have no problem with them surgically removing ore tissue to test further even though showing benign and will probably have more peace of mind than I will with the wait-and-watch areas. My radiologist said that there was so much activity going on in that one area that they really wanted to just make sure. Good luck and let us know how you do. Brenda
