New lump now getting biopsy

I've had two biopsy diagnosed fibroadenomas and severe cervical dysplasia in the last 7 years. I'm not new to the wait and see game but this latest round is a little different for me.

About 5 days ago I developed pain in my right breast when pressure was applied. It was pretty painful and woke me up because I laid on it. It came on very suddenly. It felt different from my typical cycle related aches since it was only in one side and only hurt when pressure was applied. Plus since I've been on birth control that cycle related pain is pretty non-existent. I just figured I'd bruised myself somehow and didn't really think about it.

A day later a red patch appeared on the same area. It wasn't like any rash I've ever had before. It didn't itch, didn't spread, didn't hurt, wasn't raised. It was just red and slightly warm to the touch.

Google told me infection or IBC both of which are rare and what I had going on didn't really fit either option. I'm not pregnant, I'm not breastfeeding, and I don't have any other signs of infection (no other aches or pains or a fever). But I figured it was new and weird so I went to the doctor on Monday by which point it hurt a little less but was still just as red and warm.

My doctor suspected infection but also felt a lump which I had not felt, or wasn't sure I felt, so she sent me for an ultrasound and mammogram which I was able to have that same day.

They called me today and said the radiologist saw "areas of concern" in my breast AND my lymph node so I'm getting a biopsy tomorrow (they weren't rushing me but I'm moving this weekend so I wanted it done before then and they were able to get me in tomorrow morning).

I'm nervous but also now I'm even more confused because the pain and the redness? Almost completely gone. I think I still feel the lump but I had trouble feeling it before even when my doctor pointed it out so I'm not positive. Plus my lymph nodes under my arm? Don't feel swollen or painful to me and never have so that they saw something there was completely unexpected and has me a little nervous.

I know the internet can't diagnose me but just curious if this sounds similar to anything anyone has experienced before? Like did I just have the weirdest infection ever that never gave me a fever or anything else and resolved on its own? Or was this a brand new period related symptom I've never had in the 20 years I've been having a period?

I'm hoping that when I show up tomorrow they won't be able to find the spots at all which wouldn't be a bad thing but also wouldn't really tell me what this was either.

I can't speak to what your symptoms might mean. But, as a fellow person waiting for tests results, I can send my sincere good wishes. I've often said things would be so much easier on us if we could just go into the doctor's office, have whatever tests are needed, get the results and have the first treatment all in one afternoon! It's never worked that way for me, unfortunately. For now, I'm trying to stick to my normal routine as much as possible and taking lots of warm baths to help me relax.

Yes it was frustrating because I knew Monday they wanted more tests (the nurse told me the radiologist would “probably” want me to come back but wouldn’t tell me for sure) but I had to wait until the results went to my doctor’s office so they could call me and tell me and schedule the biopsy. So silly.

I hope your results come back soon and all clear

Just in case anyone else has similar symptoms and are worried I went in today for the biopsy and the tech said the lump had gotten bigger since Monday. That was a little surprising since the pain had actually decreased. But she said that indicated a cyst or abscess and the doctor was able to aspirate it and it went away which supported the theory so no biopsy of that area. He still took samples from the lymph node but he seemed pretty sure it was some infection and told me to start the antibiotics my doctor had prescribed.

I'm not sure why they couldn't clearly tell that from the 3D mammogram or US I got since I was told an infection or cyst are pretty easy to tell but this place is pretty good so I'll have to trust that they couldn't tell and were concerned enough to do a biopsy.

It's a little weird because other than the sudden pain and redness, both of which have disappeared, I don't have other typical signs of infection. I'm also not breastfeeding and don't have any cuts or anything in the area so it's a little hard to explain where the infection came from. Hoping the pathology will come back with an answer as to the type of infection.
