Newbie - Just scheduled surgery
Hi. I've been reading this forum for a month since I was diagnosed and thought I would join. It's becoming all too real now that I have surgery scheduled. I've chosen to have a bilateral MX with reconstruction. Meeting a second PC today to talk about pre-pectoral implants. I could have had a lumpectomy with radiation but with my family history (genetic testing negative) and the past 12 years of bad screenings, biopsy, etc, I chose this. I have had a really hard time with that decision and continue to doubt myself. I also have a possibility of invasive near the DCIS that they can't really tell. I'll be having the sentinel nodes removed during surgery.
Not sure how I'm going to get through 6 weeks scared of this invasive issue. I'm already in counseling because I've been having panic attacks for the first time in my life and such extreme fatigue, sometimes I just have to stop working.
What a ride this has been so far! Any words of encouragement, advice or hellos would make my day.

Sorry to hear your story. I have similar situation. Just got diagnosed two months ago and just had surgery last Thrusday. One advice I have is try to read more about survivor forum. They get through it and they move on. You will be there too. Dont worry!

Thank you for the kind words Mods and Asianmom. The best news I've had so far is that I met my PC today and I love him! We will do the mastectomy and then 2-3 weeks later, the PC will either put the implants in or put in expanders. It would be so awesome if he can do the implants! Many things we won't know until these surgeries are actually happening though.
Now I'm waiting for the actual dates so I can get my short-term disability figured out, ugh! Whatever they do, they said it would still be 6 weeks recover which is fine. I might have new breasts for Christmas!
Hugs!

Hey there! I’m a newbie as well and just met with my Oncologist this last week after being diagnosed and it’s been decided that I need a Double Mastectomy. I have to have Genetics Testing before mine gets scheduled because cancer runs so high in my family. I have a feeling my DCIS has spread due to symptoms I’ve been having but I won’t know until the Dr removes some Sentinel Lymph Nodes in surgery. I opted for immediate reconstruction and my recovery time given was also 6 weeks so I’m here if you need to talk

Hi
Like you, I was diagnosed with DCIS. I had the lumpectomy, but the pathology on that came back that it had become invasive. So I then had the bi-lateral mastectomy. I opted for no reconstruction. Just take it one step at a time and remember, anything that feels right for you is the right choice. It's different for everyone. Don't doubt yourself. You know yourself and your body so follow your instincts. You're going to come through with flying colors!
