Architectural distortion/radial scar

Has anyone had architectural distortion with a potential radial scar biopsied? I went in for a lump that turned out to be a Fibroadenoma and the doc saw the distortion next to the palpable spot (I have dense tissue) having characteristics of a radial scar on my mammogram. He had trouble finding the spot in the ultrasound, performed a core needle biopsy and I am currently waiting on results. I've been reading about it and the likelihood of cancerous results and am preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Would love any feedback. He said 24-48 hours and I didn't hear back in 24 so I had to wait the weekend. Needless to say I'm a wreck, but ever so slightly feeling more level headed at moments

Dovely, so sorry that you are going through this worrisome time. A couple of months back I had a biopsy for an architectural distortion (Birads 4)just a couple of inches from my original cancer but it turned out to be B9.

It was visible on 3D mammo but was not confirmed on ultrasound. My understanding as a layperson is that it it less likely to be cancer if they have an issue confirming it with ultrasound. Hang in there. Waiting is the worst. Hopefully all will be well. Crossing my fingers for B9.

I can't help with this particular issue, but just wanted to say that I am thinking of you as you wait. It's not easy for sure. Best of luck to you!

Thanks sparrowhawk! Waiting is the worst, isn't it? When they didn't call me on Friday I was dreading the weekend. Trying to distract myself with family and daily stuff but it still it so hard.

Lyzzysmom, that's super interesting, and hopeful!! He really could barely tell anything from ultrasound, even came in and searched himself after the original pics were taken by the nurse. Then, after the biopsy clip was put in, he had me take a mammo pic again to make sure the clip was in the right place.

So they called today to tell me that the pathologists are going to present my case to the team. My understanding is that they don’t know what it is yet and are wanting to consults with others. The nurse that called me did not say much, except that the area in question is as measured at 1.5 cm, but not presented as a mass? I don’t know... I wonder if they knew it was cancer would they have said that right away or is it likely they still don’t know? Ugh

Are they presenting the case based on the core biopsy or did you have it excised already and they are presenting that?

I am not a pathologist but either way, both cancers and radial scars are routinely removed. Perhaps the question is whether or not to do a sentinel node excision at the time of the surgery. Keep us in the loop.

djmammo, they did a core biopsy. The doc saw the distortion on mammogram, but didn't in ultrasound. I then had a core biopsy. He said it could be a radial scar or cancerous, couldn't tell exactly with either of that imaging. I guess the lab wants to consult with the whole team today. I have not been scheduled with a surgeon or scheduled an MRI yet.

MRI before surgery will be helpful, can be confusing if done afterward.
