Taxol,Herceptin & Tysabri Dilemma
I have the wonderful experience to have MS and have been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, I’m triple HER2 positive with negative lymph nodes and margins. I take an immune suppression drug for MS and now I’m scheduled to start Taxol and Herceptin weekly for 12 weeks. Followed by 4-6 weeks of radiation and Herceptin every three weeks for a year. My Oncologist and Neurologist feel it safe for me to remain on Tysabri treatments. I feel it allot. Tysabri usually makes me fatigue, joint pain and headache. This is manageable because I only take the drug every 28 to 32 days. Adding Taxol and Herceptin to mix leaves me worried. I’m kinda glad Chemotherapy and Herceptin was postponed this week because my surgical incision has open in a few area, but that leaves me in another dilemma. I ‘m due to take Tysabri this week and receive my first dose of chemo. Anyone have this same issue

Are you switching to a different MS drug? I had just stopped Aubagio due to it increasing my blood pressure about a month before my BC diagnosis. I was going to pick another medication with my neurologist when I found the lump. Currently I am not taking any MS med. My neuro said to deal with the breast cancer tx first and then we will talk when I am done. Given that I am stage IV though, I will never be done with treatment (until a cure comes along). So I am in limbo with what to do for MS treatment. I am curious to hear what your doctors are telling you.

my doctors thought it would be ok to continue with Tysabri and Taxol and Herceptin. I never thought it was ok. I would.be so immune comprised. I have open wounds. On unaffected breast that won’t heal so my Plastic surgeon had a talk with neurologist and they decided to take off my MS drug until I finished chemotherapy. I’m relieved. Receiving my first dose of Taxol now. My neurologist says if I have a flare they will probably treat with Solumedrol. I hope this helps

Good luck to you. I hope your weekly Taxol goes well and your MS stays quiet. It makes me nervous to not be on an MS med, but it is one step at a time to get through chemo first.

I wish you well with your treatments. Fatigue is my worse enemy. Taxol and Herceptin won’t help. I felt fine after my treatment until Sunday, I had a headache, knee and shin pain. Tylenol helped for a few hours, but then the pains return. If I stay hydrated the headaches eases. You are right ,take it one step at a time

I’m have had my second Taxol and Herceptin this past Friday. I think we what’s helping is the steroids. I’m worried what’s going to happen when the stop the steroids. I’m going to adovocate they don’t stop them. I believe they holding back a MS Flare.
