Significant postmenopausal bleeding after stopping tamoxifen.
I was diagnosed at 48 years old, 11 years ago with IDC, LCIS & DCIS. Stage 1, 1.1 centimeters, no lymph node involvement. I had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction & chemotherapy. I was placed on Tamoxifen. After 5 years on Tamoxifen, I was switched to Aromasin, but it caused significant joint pain and caused my hair to start to fall out. I was placed back on Tamoxifen which I was able to discontinue after 10 years, on July 4, 2018. A blood test several years ago showed that I am post-menopausal.
Starting September 22, I began significant postmenopausal bleeding. I am now on day 11. I had a Transvaginal ultrasound on September 26, and an endometrial biopsy October 1.
The ultrasound showed endometrial lining at 12 mm thickness, and a heterogeneous endometrium. The biopsy results are not back yet.
****My question, I am wondering if this bleeding could be related to my discontinuing the Tamoxifen. I have researched the internet and cannot find anything about this being related. I am, of course, hopeful that the endometrium thickening was due to Tamoxifen, and it is in the process of sluffing off.
Does anyone have any experience with this happening, or have any insight?
Thank you in advance for your input.
Best,
Kerry

I think just perimenopause can cause such erratic bleeding, though Tamoxifen is probably the culprit. I think as long as it is a lot and the lining is shedding that is a good sign. I had slight post meno bleeding after Tamoxifen. It was a polyp, but I was tired of seeing my gyn several times a year so I asked for a hysterectomy. Surgery was uneventful. I should have done the hysterectomy years earlier. Ooph, not so much.

Hi,
Diagnosed at 47 (LCIS,DCIS Ductal and lobular carcinoma). Tumor size was 2 cm. I also have PCOS. Stopped Tamoxifen due to problems with thickened uterine lining. I have had three D&C's (2016, 2017 and 2018). Bleeding began in September 2018 not super heavy just very annoying. Saw an Oncological gyn and we did a D&C that was supposed to make the bleeding stop but it started again. I am in menopause. Anyone have any idea how long the bleeding lasts? If its a short time I will just stick it out. I really would like to avoid another surgery.
