Clear Mammo but new symptom, blood from nipple.

I’m hoping someone can help because I can’t get a GP appointment until the end of October and I’m freaking out.

I had a clear mammo last week following shooting and pinching pains in right breast.

After showering this morning and putting on my bra, I noticed a small speck of blood on it where the nipple would be. I found a tiny bit of dried blood and I’m unsure where it came from. It was the size of a pin head and looked old. After scrutinising the nipple and squeezing it, the blood didn’t appear to be coming from there.

A possibility is that there was some menstrual blood on a shower lily I used to wash myself and perhaps it caught on my nipple whilst washing and then appeared like fresh blood due to getting wet.

I realise I’m clutching at straws here but a mammo would have shown anything wouldn’t it?

More often than not, the cause would be a tiny growth in a duct, too small to see on a mammogram. They can sometime be detected on ultrasound. Let us know what your doctor says/recommends.

Thanks for your reply. So it could still be cancer that the mammo missed?

If the blood indeed came from a duct in your breast, then yes there is a small chance it could be a very small cancer, just too small to be seen on a mammogram yet. You would need other exams to find it. In my experience most intraductal masses causing recent onset nipple discharge are not seen on a mammogram.

Let us know what your doctor says/recommends. If you find more blood in your bra or see a drop on your nipple let us know.
