Wearing bra advice

I couldn't tolerate a bra after lumpectomy. Had surgery on a Friday afternoon, by Monday I was so fed up with wearing a sports bra I called the office and got the surgeon's blessing to not wear anything. I was braless until I went back to work, at which time I had to find a bra that didn't come up anywhere near the armpit incision. I still can't tolerate anything touching that. Some nerve damage remains there and I get this tingly prickly feeling whenever that incision is touched, that I can't stand.

I don't think I wore deodorant until completely healed from radiation. Just kept it really clean.

I wonder if it has to do with breast size? I am small chested, so gravity doesn't play a huge role. Maybe that's why they let me take the bra off. Or maybe it's just whatever the surgeon wants. Mine is pretty laid back, but it turned out ok.

My surgeon’s post op advice (for everything) was “if it hurts, don’t do it”. I wore a bra 24/7 for the first two weeks. I’m 6ish weeks out from my lumpectomy, and still can’t wear an underwire bra. I’ve been wearing a Coobie bra. They’re soft and comfortable, but but give me just enough support. They’re stretchy enough that I could pull them up from my feet at the beginning. Wishing your mom an easy recovery!

I have a Coobie too, that I wear sometimes. Ordered it from Zappos. I cut out the part around my armpit incision so it doesn't rub. Most of my bras have a cut out portion now, except for some Hanes that are cut lower.

Might have to buy a bunch of things and experiment. I sent my husband out with a general size idea, and had him buy a bunch of bras from Target (poor guy) so I could try them on at home. That how I found that the Hanes were ok. He returned everything else.
