Pleural effusion was my first symptom of MBC. Several thoracenteses and a pleurodesis (sp?) to one lung. Had to be on oxygen 24/7 for a few months but the Taxol chemo and especially the Ibrance really knocked that down! Doing much better with breathing, knock wood! I hope your next treatments will help you get back to normal breathing. What is the plan?

    Hi Cramer6d,

I was also initially diagnosed as stage IV due to malignant pleural effusion in the right lung. I had increasing shortness of breath and a cough that simply would not let up. I had thoracentesis a couple of times but then had a PleurX Catheter inserted so that the lung could be drained more easily. I had it for about six months, draining twice a week until finally they fluid decreased. I still have a bit of loculated fluid in the right lung but the fluid doesn't bother me at all. In my case, Taxol was not very effective but the combination of an AI and Ibrance seemed to help.

There is a thread for lung mets but it is not very active. There are a number of us who have had it, some who are long term survivors.

    Sending a virtual hug. Pat

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I have not had it, but my mother-in-law had that as her first MBC symptom.

I was just dx with this after a plural effusion. I’m 7 years out from BC. I have a pet scan on the 16th.

Hi, sorry about your dx. How are the meds? How difficult? I had Taxol and Cytoxin plus 6 weeks of rads when I was first dx in 2011
