How long should it take to hear on a biopsy?

Hello everyone! For the past couple of months, I've been noticing a scaly, flaky, itchy rash on my right nipple that wouldn't go away no matter what I tried. I finally went to my doctor a few weeks ago, and after trying a prescription-strength eczema treatment that didn't help, she's concerned it could be Paget's disease or (worst case) inflammatory breast cancer.

I had a punch biopsy of my nipple/areola a little over a week ago, and the waiting is killing me. Is it normal for it to take this long to hear back? Has anybody else had these symptoms and it turned out to be something benign? I went in expecting to hear I had some weird rash or infection. The waiting is not fun :/

    No the waiting is not fun....I am sorry you are here and worried, but the odds are in your favor that it is not breast cancer. Five days/week is to be expected I think...I waited 5 days...but the results were uploaded to my online chart before my appt. My breast center had an on site lab and then my biopsy was also sent for other tests...within 1 hour of my biopsy, I had a scheduled appointment with a breast surgeon so I knew. I have found the longer you do not hear back, the more likely it is not the crazy outcomes of where our brains take us. (IMHO) Sending you a cyber hug!

    My breast lump biopsy results came back next day, but when I had a suspicious spot biopsied by the dermatologist it took the better part of two weeks to hear from them. They told me it would take that long. What kind of waiting timeframe were you given?

    Mine took 6 days, i was told I would hear in two days.

    Thanks everyone. They told me 3 to 5 days, but it's been a little over a week. Just starting to get antsy.

    I was to!d 7 to 10 days for biopsy results. Report was on my portal in 7 days and we went from there.

    I would call the office of the doctor who performed or ordered the biopsy and ask about it at this point. Perhaps everything was normal and no one thought to call you. Or maybe it was sent out somewhere else for testing.

    I had the biopsies done on a Friday morning and had the preliminary results by phone call the following Monday afternoon.

    no, the waiting is not fun. It sucks. But I would call your doctor. My results were in my hands within 48 hours.

    Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the info and the encouragement. Just learned that my results actually came back yesterday, but my doctor is out of the office this week unexpectedly, and it's the office's policy not to release the results until the primary care provider has reviewed them. I just left a message to see if any other doctor in the practice can review the results and let me know what's up, but right now, it's looking like I won't know anything until next week :/

    Soooo I got another doctor to look at the results, but I basically immediately regret it. Her e-mail said, "It's a very early precancerous lesion, but nothing to worry because we took it out." But that's not the case - it's not really a "lesion" in the traditional sense; the skin of my whole nipple/areola has changed (thickened skin, flaky, itchy), and they only took a tiny piece of tissue to test. My doctor should be back to the office on Monday with more answers, but based on my limited understanding, I'm guessing there will be more tests in my future.

    I am in that same situation—thickened nipple and areola, flaking, tiny discharge—but nipple biopsy preliminary report according to nurse said “skin thickening and inflammation but no malignancy”. waiting to meet with the dr Tuesday. Want to know why.

    1.5 cm BI-RADS 5 mass biopsied yesterday. I get the results Tue 10/16. I now know what all you ladies have been going through.

    My mammogram and ultrasound put me at birad 4c. I had my needle core biopsy on the 15 of August and they came back on August 29 but couldn’t find out the results from the breast clinic so I begged my gp’s secretary for the results on the 30th since my doctor was on holidays. The hospital where I had it done had to do some extra special tests and have it double checked. My result, a discord with my mammogram, ultrasound and pathology results so a rebiopsy on October 4th with my new surgeon/hospital and my upcoming appointment this Wednesday (9 weeks from first biopsy. By the way, this was my first ever mammogram that was done July 16– a total of 13 weeks and 3 days to get some kind of answers. Totally unacceptable). I feel for you all and can totally relate.

    I was told my pathology report would be back in 1-2 weeks and genetic results in 2-3 weeks. I would have to agree that waiting is the worst and it sucks no matter how you look at it. Try to be present in your daily life and enjoy your friends and family. Don't let the worries of the results consume you...easier said than done. Just know you have lots of people that care about you. You got this!
