Ksuze - wow....was I off on my guess LOL. Thanks for the personal divulge!Amazing work you do and hope you get back into the program you want soon! That must be such a satisfying career....makes me yearn to follow my dreams of becoming an archeologist. One day it will happen, bucket list goal. As for the weight I'm sure you'll see a dip down soon, you're dedicated and that always wins out!
-
Thanks egads007 and ksusan
I appreciate the support.
-
Jade, I second Egads and ksusan we are here for love and support too. I don't know what I would do without these lovely ladies. Hugs girl.
HELP!!! I am making Chicken Potpie Chowder for dinner. It calls for cream corn what can I use that is a diet friendly?
-
Vamp in almost 4 years of paleo I’ve yet to find a sub for corn, either in taste or texture. I’d LOVE if someone has a good substitute...speak up please!
What I have used is mashed potatoes 1/2 to 1 cup, depending on what I’m making, to sub...it thickens and adds the starch corn has...used it for soups, stews...it could replace the ‘creamed’ part of the corn, but not the kernels....cauliflower rice for that??
Good luck, let us know, pic pls!!

A very late, but it's here.........
TUTORIAL THURSDAY - Magnificent Magnesium!
A few of us were chatting earlier this week about magnesium supplements and as promised.....
Magnesium is vital to mental and emotional health, proper sleep, healthy cell function, bone health and, according to new research, reduction of inflammation. IMHO magnesium this is a critically overlooked nutrient. North American's rank in with a whopping almost 50% of us deficient in it, and is often the common culprit behind diabetes 2, arthritis, heart disease, obesity and many other conditions. So many health problems indicate possible magnesium deficiency that it became a big enough issue that the WHO (World Health Org, as well as a pretty good band
) has published their concerns. The WHO is quite conservative and typically doesn't promote supplementation beyond basic necessity, so when they publish about deficiency issues, you know it's a big fat hairy deal! The sad thing is that our average Western diet, which is so potentially rich in nutrition, is in fact creating a very deficient, unhealthy population. I'm sure you get the point…..it's important stuff and you have a an almost 50% chance of being deficient.
CAUSES OF MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY- Lack of magnesium in the soil we grow in. Over the centuries farming has stripped the land of naturally occurring magnesium, which translates to less in our food.
- Lack of magnesium-rich foods in the diet, particularly plant foods. Animal foods are relatively magnesium-poor, while plants tend to be magnesium-rich.
- Removal of magnesium from municipal drinking water. Magnesium rich water (as opposed to purified, depleted modern water) was how our ancient ancestors got a great deal of their magnesium (mineralized water is full of it).
- Alcohol use (or misuse)
- Chronic GI issues
- Malabsorption syndromes, such as celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease
- Excessive urination as in uncontrolled diabetes and during recovery from acute kidney failure
- High blood calcium level
- Hyperaldosteronism (disorder in which the adrenal gland releases too much of the hormone aldosterone into the blood)
- Malnutrition (fasting too hard? Calories consistently too low?)
- Medicines including amphotericin, cisplatin, cyclosporine, diuretics, proton pump inhibitors, and aminoglycoside antibiotics
- Heavy sweating (sound familiar?)

SYMPTOMS
Before I'll even touch on magnesium supplements, I must add this:DON'T START POPPING PILLS BEFORE CHECKING WITH YOUR HEALTH TEAM!!!
Almost all of the symptoms listed may be related to other causes than mag deficiency! Ask your MO or PCP to run blood work to be sure that you might actually need or can take magnisium supplements…..that goes for any other medication (over the counter or otherwise) that you may be considering. I know this is a no brainer for y'all, but my warning is to err on the side of caution.
Ok, that's out of the way
Magnesium supplementation has been shown to improve beta cell function in diabetics, insulin sensitivity in non-diabetics and type 2 diabetics, and blood pressure in people with low magnesium status.
Here is a handy dandy chart to help determine what magnesium best suits your situation(from the most common types you'll find on the shelves). The different types can vary in side effects greatly......
As you can see a few have a laxative effect….matter o' fact the Citrate and Oxide type are used in colonoscopy preps. If you're a peep with GI issues, avoid these at all cost (I could tell you a story but, ummmm, nawww, you get the idea).
Personal Note
Me to MO: "My god, my calves and feet spasm to the point of doing a great impression of Linda Blair in the movie The Exorcist!!!"*
MO: "50% of women find taking a magnesium supplement extremely effective with tamoxifen related joint and muscle probs…..but you had Ulcerative Colitis, and may want to avoid".*
Me: "Ok Doc, gotcha!"*
3.5 years later, after going paleo, and a healed up tummy, I took a chance on magnesium recently, as I had a sudden return of leg cramps from hell and thumb joint issues after my tamoxifen brand was switched out on me….squats and lunges are a huge help in reducing leg cramps, but the new APO Canadian brand are beating out the exercise to a degree). Because of my GI issues I chose the glycinate type. No tummy effects but unfortunately I fell on the bad side of the 50% that saw no leg cramp reduction. I was disappointed that mag didnothing for my legs, butttttttttt………I WAS SLEEPING AGAIN!!! Thinking I was imagining it, I stopped the taking the mag for a week…..most nights I was…..
So I'm back on 400 mg of mag glycinate again, finding improved mood, sleep, energy on the upswing. Squats and lunges increased and I'm seeing more leg improvement.....crossing fingers here.Supplements not possible? Get your mag the old fashioned way....eat it (actually the best way)
Mineral water....a great natural magnesium source!
To sum up, check with your health team, get blood work done, choose carefully and if you're GI sensitive wade in carefully….you might even want to heal up the tum before even considering magnesium…..or any type of supplement. Safety first!

Well, the taste was a bit different than the original recipe, but I still liked it, maybe more salt next time. I changed cream corn for cauliflower blended with coconut milk, to thicken it a bit more I used coconut flour.
-
Looks good vampeyes
-
Vampriella - YUM!!! Nice sub with the cauliflower-coconut milk mix! Inquiring minds want the recipe
))

Looks tasty.

Was hit with the realization as I was checking my lists that I deleted my last "hospitalsleepytime" playlist and have spent the past hour squinting at the iPhone screen trying to find classical music,Gregorian and Buddhist chants..ya the fun never ends..
Now it's time to create a "hospitalcarefullybopmyheadtothebeat" Playlist. Bigger list, gonna take longer.its also a wild mix of music from some country, some blues, billie Holliday,Nina Simone, lady Gaga, some 80's hair metal, some korn, linken park and soundtracks songs so on. So more squinting for awhile.i got strange music tastes.
Those are actual playlist names by the way
I wasn't kidding when I said I'm a planner this stuff needs to be done way ahead of time so I'm not in a last minute panic and end up having a panic attack cause I was caught off guard by too much stuff.
I'm also trying to figure out last minute healthy food items now I have the convenience of a microwave and don't have to stand at a stove high as kite (sensitive system I react strongly to T3's) looking at the the steam rising up and muttering "whooo cook cook cooky cook" and cackling...ya that happened...strooong reactions...

InnaB - Back in 2015 I had to sink $2,200.00 into my 1999 VW Bug. Foolish, I know. I sold it a couple mos. later for barely over that and decided I wanted a puppy MORE than another car. That is how I ended up getting Kirby. For me, the best decision ever. Even though it is a challenge to get to/from the grocery store and other stuff. But who could pass up this face ;0) and his cuddles ;0) However, I understand that a refrigerator is a greater need than a car.
Egads - Oh my gosh! You are hilarious! Loved your videos. I just don't understand how your DS doesn't appreciate your sense of humor.
Saw my MO last Friday, she said that at this point I am in REMISSION! Yeah!!! However, can't help having the sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop too. Kind of conflicting.
Last week I was on Dexamethazone (steroid) and I felt amazing (except for the insomnia)! This week reality has bitten me in the arse. I was pleading with my Palliative Care provider today for a half pill dose, but she told me "NO" because it suppresses the immune system and is hard on the bones, plus the Ibrance weakens my white count. Major BUMMER! I don't like him at all! He's no fun!
Another thing that was ZERO fun was when I decided last week to actually drink the recommended amount of water on Thursday & Friday. I drank 60 oz., plus my morning coffee. I was urinating like crazy & on Friday evening I started having muscle cramps all over my Torso. I couldn't understand why this was happening. Then during the night I began have cramps all down my legs and neck. I called the MO on Saturday and they said the cramps could be due to an electrolyte imbalance. Say what? Then it clicked in my brain. I had been craving salt all evening on Friday. Drank V-8 and even cooked some salty bacon at 11 p.m. I had done this to myself. MO said I could have caused myself to have seizures had I continued. Had nausea & vomiting on Sunday. Thankfully I managed to avoid the ER this time. I laid low at home and drank juice, etc. to get my electrolytes back in order. I guess the 8 glasses of 8 oz. doesn't work for me!
I make stuffed zucchini that I discovered kind of as a fluke, and want to share the recipe for anyone who wants to try it:
After cutting in half and scooping the seeds out, I par-boil the zucchini halves in boiling, salted water for 2 min. Beforehand I cook Jenni-O 93/7 ground turkey, seasoned with a generous amount of taco seasoning (McCormicks). Pour Hunt's brand tomato sauce with "Roasted Garlic" in the bottom of my baking dish. Place the par-boiled zucchini halves in the tomato sauce, fill with the cooked turkey meat, sprinkle medium cheddar & sliced green onion on top, cover the pan with foil and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 min. When I serve it I put some of the tomato sauce over the zucchini boat. I love this combo a lot!
Okay, it is now 2:00 a.m here and I should try and get some sleep, but first Kirbs needs out. Have a great day Ladies!

Jade, can you get Freegal music app on your phone? I have it on my android and it's run through the local library, they give you 3 free downloads per week. You can also select playlists and they offer all genres. All you need is a library card.

Junie, congrats on your good news! Happy to hear it! And I agree that Kirby is the sweetest thing on the planet!
About the dog: although we were able to repair our fridge for the mere $300, the dog purchase is not forthcoming in the near future. My DH has dogs in the past. When we first started dating, he had a dog and I had a cat. When he moved in, he didn’t take the dog with him and had never warmed up to my cat. Then we immigrated to the US leaving the cat with our friends, and for many years pets were the last thing on our mind. So for 26 years we’ve been petless.
I think I am getting ready for a dog, but not for the additional responsibility that comes with it. Maybe in a couple of years, when our son leaves for college i’ll Revisit this topic.
-
Junie
Congrats on the remission.
Vampeyes
Downloaded it and will be exploring it later today.thank you.

Mornin' Cave Peeps!!
Looks like FOODIE FRIDAY is rolling along beautifully...YAY!!!
KSuze - *waving hi* hope the fall scheduling & classes are coming along well.
JunieBee - WOOT!! Remission!! So happy to read that!! Not happy to read about your electrolyte debacle, not fun! As for the Dex, I used to crave it during chemo as it made me feel like I could leap tall buildings in a single bound LOL! Crazy stuff steroids. Enjoy the good news as much as you can. Waiting for the other shoe to drop while absolutely understandable, is such a waste of our precious time. Keep us posted please! my DS has the usual residual teen angst some kids have...I swear I'm his favourite target LOL! Thing is, he is cut from the same cloth as me and his sense of humour is pretty much set...he beats my humour by a country mile. Makes for a lot of 'laugh till you cry' sessions in our house. I just love the pic of the Kirbster...such a sweet boy! Zucchini boats rock! Thanks for sharing!
Vampriella - thanks for the recipe share, a definite winner with the colder weather setting in here! I never peel either, love the texture and nutritional value of the skins. Think I'll rustle up a batch of your chowder this weekend and knock back a few Mermaid Waters with it *wink wink* LOL!!!!!
Jade - LOVE the mix of artists you choose...your musical taste runs about eclectic as mine....check out Greta Van Fleet, a group of kids age 19-22 that actually understand what classic rock is about...they even made Robert Plant sit up and take notice (rollingstone interview) Hope you get your music in order painlessly!
Inna (godda davida) - dogs are awesome but as you say, a lot of responsibility and work. We're wading into the pet ownership area...at least in thought right now...thinking rescue dogs. It's quite a commitment so we're weighing it out carefully.
So I'm sitting in the waiting room of the shop right now ...watching my baby (car) up on the rack...mechanic tinkering. I think he's probably getting paranoid as I stare lol...I feel like I'm waiting for the car to give birth! So far this is the second shop she's been in (muffler fix today)...the dealership put a bigger hole in the exhaust pipe while inspecting. Driving her over to this shop was SO EMBARRASSING...she was as loud as a Sherman tank! Peeps on the sidewalk turned and looked as I drove by LOL!! The car seriously sounded like what young fellas do to their exhaust to sound loud & cool, but not in a good way. I wish I had a kickass sound system with lots of bass...it would have completed the whole experience...driving along with a LOUD muffler, trunk of car rattling with the bass of Mozart LOL!!
Back soon with my foodie contribution!

FOODIE FRIDAY, YAY AGAIN!!
HAVE WAFFLE IRON, WILL TRAVEL!
In my culinary pursuit of the weird n' wonderful, and being a squeaky clean week, I decided I was sick of the usual 'clean' side dishes. Weeknight cooking, I think, should be fast, easy, clean and tasty. The tasty part ain't very easy with limited time. That's where my waffle iron comes in….
Along with shredded yellow & green zucchini I tossed together a mish mash of whatever has been hanging out in the fridge hood' causing trouble. Onion….that was a must. Rough chop, quick and mixed with a 'batter' of almond flour, egg and a bit of avocado oil (any will do). It would have included grated parm if it wasn't clean week...makes em' crispier. Poured into the iron….
A few minutes later these pretty lil' babies made a tasty, easy side of veg and protein. Crispy but soft in the center....Now the veg was hangin' out with some butter pan fried haddock, topped with a homemade salsa and quick sautéed snap peas…made us happy!
Yup, the waffle iron isn't just for Sunday mornings anymore
)))
A few other easy squeaky clean dinners this week...….
Moroccan spiced yogurt marinated chicken thighs w/ mashed pancetta laced cauliflower and garlic sautéed green beans (thanks again Ksuze...the mash was wonderful!)….oh, and a weird little salad thing....who knows lol.
All on one sheet pan! Oven roasted salmon, baby carrots, balsamic brussels, red pepper and broccoli, balsamic drizzle (spinach salad not showing) The roasted carrots tasted MUCH better than they look
))))))
How have the squeaky clean challenge chicks been doing so far this week?? JKL - Where be ya???
-
(Edited to add a link)
Where am I, Egads? At the gym, sweating out the frustration I felt after watching the Brett Kavanaugh hearings. Since this thread is not a political one, I'll just leave it at that.
My post-surgical recovery is complete. Surgeon says I'm healing beautifully & I feel great. I've been cleared to return to all my prior activities (including the gym). I'm lifting again but have temporarily reduced my weights so LE doesn't raise its ugly head (or arm!). I've even signed up for a new water aerobics class.
My eating had been squeaky clean (to quote Egads) this week. I made Mexican stuffed peppers with paleo enchilada sauce & they were muy bueno! Tonight DH is grilling avocado chicken burgers (spiced up with jalapeno & poblano peppers). I found paleo tortillas at Whole Foods & plan to experiment with paleo enchiladas (I may wait to do that on a "cheat" day so I can add some cheese to it, though). Can you tell that I'm addicted to Mexican food?
I'm branching out & have tried making paleo desserts. So far I've made ice cream, cookies & brownies. (These chocolatey cookies were great & froze well. https://getinspiredeveryday.com/food/double-chocol...) My next effort will be coming up with some new paleo breakfasts. Anyone want to recommend your personal favorite? (I am going to try using my waffle iron in unexpected ways. Maybe sweet potato hash browns? Egads, you've inspired me!)
Yea, Junie, I'm celebrating your remission with you! I'll bake a big pan of paleo brownies we can all share. And, Vamp & Junie, thanks for the recipes; both sound like yummy fall food. JJo, hope things are coming together for you. Hang in there! It does get better. And thanks, Egads, for the magnesium tutorial. I needed that!
It feels almost like fall here in Virginia & that's enough to make me happy!!!!
-
That looks yummy!
I guess I am eating squeaky clean. I don't drink much alcohol anyway, and I've stuck to lazy keto quite consistently (kept a food log and stayed low on carbs, but not tracking macros). I've done 11 weeks with virtually no simple carbs or fructose, and no grain.
Classes are going well. I have a nice bunch of students. Monday I've got another round of pulling and posting chapters to do, which is fun. A good handful of my undergrads were propping their heads on their hands with elbows on the table during class yesterday. I figured out that they were listening to Dr Blasey Ford's testimony and hiding their Bluetooth earbuds from me. I "didn't notice."
-
Thanks Jadejo!
Egads - The food pics look delish.

Happy Saturday Cave Chickies!
I was unceremoniously awakened from my peaceful slumber today…….by my Cavedude…..at the ungodly hour of *gasp* 6:30!!! He had a golf date with friends. My man is a part time butterfingers aficionado. On his slippery grip agenda this morning was....1. To drop a frying pan into an empty sink, followed closely by 2. Slamming a cupboard door shut. Has anyone ever stood under Big Ben when it strikes the hour? Yeah….apparently frying pans and cupboard doors have the same volume. Not fun being yanked out of a wonderful (magnesium induced lol) sleep.. .
JKL – Ain't nothing like the inner workings of a political scandal/investigation of this proportion to get a gal into the gym.....working at twice the usual heart rate
) . Since diagnosis I tend to ignore most of the news these days. People being wiped out by vans jumping sidewalks, public spree killings, man's inhumanity to man, Trump, it all feels 'too much' for me. This story though, is one I'm following closely. Like you, I'll leave it there, and just enjoy the extra cardio I gain from it. So babydoll….WOOT!!! Congrats on getting the green light from the surgeon!! You must be so relieved & thrilled…..I know I am (for you)….not easy stuff you've gone through, awesome that you're moving forward! The description of your Mexican meals had me salivating, planning for upcoming dinners and wishing 'su case mi casa'
))). Breakfast seems to be a real sticking point. A steady stream of bacon and eggs quickly loses its appeal for many Paleo kids. I'll dig up my fav later today and post along with a few others. As for the sweet potato hash browns….go for it, works great. Some peeps make pizza in it, or take leftover fries and make latkes out of them (Paleo of course). Google 'things you can make in a waffle iron'…..the list is deliciously endless! Fall has come quickly to Nova Scotia…..it started around the end of July LOL….and we're seeing the trees turn, frosty nights and rain….3 fricken' days of it so far. If you have an Ark I can borrow I'd be grateful! Time to get out the cinnamon, clove, pumpkin spice etc to warm my damp soul
)
Ksuze – Great squeaky eating and kudos for 11 weeks straight! Have you ever had need to 're-carb'? Whenever I'm consistently at lower than usual carb levels I hit a patch of dragged out/exhausted feeling. That is when I drag out the sweet potatoes (1-2 meals) and get my fix. Instantly gives me the needed boost. I'm not sure if Keto Peeps ever hit a patch like that! Geeze, I wish I had you as a teacher back in the day. Not one of them ever 'didn't notice' earbuds when we'd be listening to important stuff…like Zeppelin
)))). Then again, earbuds were Sony Walkman headphones back then…..kinda hard to miss!
JunieBee – Thanks sweetie! I'm thinking I should come up with a waffle recipe for Kirby….something dog friendly....does the Kirbster like garlic?
) I'm sending positives your way for a 'feel good' & 'no-health-issues- at-all' weekend!!
Time for my second pot of coffee ;)))))))) Enjoy the weekend ladies!

Got a question for you all?
I have a a severe reaction to antibiotics gut wise. Even after begging to the doctors and asking if there was any other way to get them other then orally I basically been told I'm going to have to suffer through it.
I have been given the suggestion for probiotics by someone on box but when I went to pharmacy all were out of my price range except one which I was told was basic and least strength, got it anyway but I was wondering if anyone has other suggestions.
To give you an idea what antibiotics does to me in 2015 after only being on antibiotics for 5 days I became seriously ill with heavy nausea I was taking an otc anti nauseant every four hours and had to sleep sitting up with my back against the wall and that was difficult so I wouldn't get much sleep until my body gave out from exhaustion, I could not get any solid food in me because my throat wouldn't allow me to swallow solids it would close up and I would start feel like I'm suffocating I literally choked whenever I took pills and had to live off of broth and completely liquified fruit smoothies with protein powder. This lasted over 3/ 1/2 just nearly four months. I was taking in only 500-700 calories a day and lost 50 pounds in 45 days and in total lost 60 ( gained back of course) because I was at the time and am again obese, the doctors only response was "well you can afford to lose the weight, can't you?" Exact words of an emergency room doctor. No help whatsoever.
I do not want to go back to that.ever. The only good thing that happened was I lost weight it, it took its toll on my body and a a scoot he over a year later I ended up getting a blood transfusion because I was already anemic and my body could barely recover what it went through and had me right on the edge of critical anemia. I full believe this incident fed the cancer cells in my body and is part of the reason I'm here today.
I don't know if there are foods that would help like probiotics are supposed to ( or if probiotics will even help) but I do not want to go back to that nightmare. Over 3 years later I'm still traumatized from it and have avoided antibiotics since.i can't this time. This isn't me having a little stomach upset while taking antibiotics it's me getting severely ill.
If anybody has gut issues with antibiotics I'm wondering what you have done to help deal with it. Food or otherwise.
Activia yogurt was mentioned by someone and I will be getting a pack tommorow.
Thank you.
-
Jade - Yes, there are definitely other ways to get your probiotics happening through food.....fermented food is best. Forget the Activia, it's generally full of sugar or artificial sweeteners (not gut friendly!) and there is absolutely no way of knowing how many live cultures are contained in the yogurt. Also, the heavy duty problems you have require WAY more healing and help than yogurt. If you do eat it go for the plain style marked 'live cultures' on the packaging. Anything else is not going to help.
- Raw sauerkraut (will be listing link to a recipe to make your own below...or available in the natural section of the grocery store...expensive but only a few tablespoons per meal is needed)
- Kombucha (fermented drink you can buy in grocery stores, it's the pop of Paleo kids. No need to down a whole bottle, 1/4 cup per day)
- Kimchi (a spicier version of sauerkraut, can be eaten straight or used in cooking)
- Fermented Tofu (if you can find it, yes it's not paleo but short term it's the best of a bad bunch and very gut friendly in the short term)
- Other fermented homemade drinks, recipe link below.
- Me. I have two boxes of Culturelle sitting here doing nothing as I no longer need to use them....PM your address and they are yours. I'd be overjoyed to send them off to you.

Chia pudding may work as a breakfast alternative. Also, my wife and I were talking this morning about frying up some greens or broccoli in bacon grease (I imagine chicken schmaltz would work well, too). 90-second keto mug bread isn't terribly exciting but can be modified with cinnamon, ginger, and a little fruit.
Egads, my father was a principal. He taught me his most important maxim for educators: Respond to everything you see, and don't see everything.
I haven't re-carbed because this 3-month block is an experiment. After I look at my labs with my PCP in October, we'll talk about whether to add more carbs in, or switch to a low-grain, low-fruit Mediterranean-ish diet for a quarter. My metabolism adjusts very quickly to whatever I eat and any level of exercise to keep me at a BMI of 32-33, so changing things up is sometimes a strategy to re-start weight loss. In the 3 months after my next appointment, I have a conference with working meals, Thanksgiving with family cooking, Christmas with family where I can control food options to some extent but several other people need to be cooked for/will be cooking, and flights, a land tour that includes meals, and a small-ship cruise that will provide limited options.
Jadedjo, what a disgusting statement from a doctor! I'm sorry.
JKL, I missed your post. Thanks for the update, and I'm glad your recovery is going well.
What else? I've been (re)credentialed as a Medicare provider plus two sort of mega-panels of other health care panels, so as of 10/1 I can take insurance in my private practice again. I don't know if I've said here that I'm only seeing people with breast cancer concerns and hope to get a group or two going next year since there are no breast cancer-specific groups in my area.
-
Okay, keto breakfast ideas that may work or be modifiable for paleo:
Chia pudding
2T chia to ½ c unsweetened nut milk
2T hemp hearts
(2T flax seeds)
(heavy whipping cream or butter)
(berries)
Shake in container.
Fridge overnight—shake if you think of it.
Microwave with cinnamon, cocoa, or fruit.
Breakfast wrap
Sunfood raw organic coconut wrap
Cheese, meat, veg
or
Mascarpone or cream cheese, cinnamon, scant fruit
Can be microwaved.
90-second keto mug bread
1 whisked egg
3 T almond flour
T olive or butter
1/2 t baking powder
(A few berries or nuts)
(Pinch salt, though the baking powder is salty enough for my taste)
Mix well, move to a ramekin, tap on counter to settle.
Microwave 90 seconds. If using a wider container, it may take more seconds.
Can be toasted after microwaving.

Thanks!
-
Jade, you can take a large dose of probiotics in capsules. I’ve been taking RealLife ones (50 billion strength) through chemo and never had gut issues.
-
I have been out-of-the-loop so just caught up on all the posts. Junie - woo-hoo, REMISSION. I know its hard to get past the "waiting for the other shoe to drop" but enjoy. I find when I do all I can, through exercise, diet, taking care of myself, that it gives me more confidence and a feeling of control. (Until it doesn't - LOL, like every ache and pain).
Egads, I can so understand new BIL and your family. My husband's sister gave up a child for adoption and that daughter found the family a few years ago. It left my poor nephew wishing he had been adopted, since the adopted sibling had an ideal, and I mean ideal, childhood being raise by a prominent doctor, while he lived more like your brother-in-law. I'm glad you found him and can enjoy the rest of life as family.
I see a pumpkin spice latte in my future. We have just turned autumn-like cool in the last couple of days, so I think I will be switching from iced coffee to a nice fall flavored latte. I will get the ingredients when I go to the store tomorrow. Thanks for finding the recipe.
JKL I think I need your Mexican stuffed peppers recipe, and please let me know how you like the paleo tortillas. I just think nothing will come close to a corn tortilla for me, but maybe with enchilada sauce and cheese all over...
I got my cholesterol tested because I have been off exemestane for 3 months while they try to determine if I am in menopause - long story. I was told that the AIs can raise your cholesterol, but alas, being off for 3 months did not improve it. I'm at 214 total, so getting a little high, although my triglycerides are 59 and my HDL 61, so in calculating various ratios, it seems all mine are low risk, except one is moderate risk, and does not warrant any action - ie statins.
-
TwoH, here are links for the stuffed peppers & the enchilada sauce. (I used ground turkey in the peppers but any ground meat should work.) The peppers were good but a little dry so the second time I fixed them I made enchilada sauce (the spices in the peppers said Mexican to me) & served it with the peppers. I had lots of leftovers & I poured the sauce over the peppers before reheating & it worked well.

Ksusan, I'm going to try some of your breakfast suggestions. (Just curious, what does chia taste like?) BTW, that's a sad story about your nephew. It's hard to have regrets about something you can't change. And yea for you - working with people dealing with breast cancer concerns! You are going to make a real difference in the lives of a lot of people.
JJo, if you have any Korean grocery nearby, you can find kimchi there, usually at a low price. There are a lot of recipes for making your own, if you want to try that. This one looked pretty informative: https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-easy-kimchi-....
Egads, I hope your car has recovered & that you've been happily reunited!

Great recipes & suggestions KSuze & Inna!
Jade, one last tip (from a former Ulcerative Collitis & acid reflux gal) keep as much wheat, grains & simple sugars out of the tummy as possible. They contain high amounts of toxins that cause gut inflammation....not what you need. Cutting wheat, grains and sugars stopped my GI problems in their tracks (like within 7-10 days!) Add the probiotic suggestions that we've mentioned here and it'll alsogive your GI a fighting chance against having it's flora stripped by the antibiotics. When using probiotics be sure to take them (or eat them) 2 hours before or after the antibiotics....otherwise you'll negate the effectiveness of both. Plenty o' water.
KSuze - you should def do the greens in bacon grease for brekkie....chicken works too. It took me a while to wrap my head around dinner for breakfast but it's a regular event in my cave now. We reheat small dinner leftover plates in the morning with wild abandon LOL!! LOVE Your father's expression, very sage advice that probably made him a much respected man in his field. Btw, how is your wife doing with the health issues lately? I'm sure you'll easily work around the upcoming plans...which btw, all sound really exciting....you're moving and shaking for sure! Keep us posted please! Oh and stay tuned for another BMI post coming soon...its not the only kid in the block
))
Inna (godda davida) - I haven't forgotten your potato salad recipe and will be trying soon...I'm on a squeaky clean stint right now and can't afford the carbs....can't wait to try something that almost broke a couple up
)))))
So Cave Kids, tomorrow I plan on returning the favour to my cavedude for his early wake up call this morning...
....I'll let you know how it goes....or how fast I had to run

Looks like we were all posting at almost the same time lol!
TwoH - my heart goes out to your nephew, life sure does deal some unfair hands! I'm positive he has a loving aunt in you though....thanks for the good wishes! My PCP is of the opinion that in cases such as yours and mine (wonky results) that it's down to genetics, rearing it’s headas we get older. I'm up for the three month break to test for menopause in December (think I mentioned that before), so it'll be interesting to compare notes. Really glad you're not up for meds, maybe more time to clear your system? I've read that both tamoxifen and ALs hang around in the system for a looong time.
JKL - car is back, not pleased with the results so I'll be going for another round this week....*cringe*. Ok so I'll be def doing Mexican after reading your links....thanks for posting the recipes!! Now, where did I put my sombrero and CD of the Tiajuana Brass??
