Hi, I am wondering if there's anyone else out there like me?

I lost 12 lbs about 2 months prior to diagnosis (Stage 2 triple negative) and noticed muscle atrophy in my calves. Lost another 6 lbs during chemo (despite eating enough) and continued to lose more muscle.

Had a complete response to chemo and now 3 months post. Still losing muscle but weight has stabilized and haven't lost since chemo ended.

I don't seem to fit the typical breast cancer scenario... investigations have been negative - normal CT scans, bloodwork and endoscopy....

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a loss of muscle as well?

Hi I haven't been on here in a while and just saw this post. I am 5 years out but I did experience muscle wasting from my experience- not sure what caused it. Was it the cancer, the chemo, the radiation or maybe the drug induced sudden menopause??? Mmmmm. I was always VERY muscular and strong and I noticed a huge difference. It is just another thing to heap on the pile of troubles from having this dreaded disease. I did not lose weight- I ended up gaining from the menopause and had to learn real quick to watch every morsel I put into my mouth. I am very active and exercised right thru my entire treatment to this day but I still don't have the same muscle mass I had pre cancer. I started doing heavier weights to try and really challenge my body. You are not alone. I never found out why this happened though.

Yes. I'm eight months past my last chemo and I'm still dealing with muscle loss. I've been working hard to rebuild my fitness, but it's really tough. Part of it is my treatment, and part was my age (60). Good luck.

Thanks for your replies. It helps to hear similar stories. It takes time to get back to “normal” whatever that may be. A new normal!

    Good luck to you both!

    Thanks, Diane
