MRI results have me confused

I just got off the phone with a nurse to talk about the MRI. They’re not seeing a mass in my breast, but when I got my dx yesterday, they said I was positive for IDC grade 2 in both the breast and the one lymph node they biopsied after seeing microcalcifications on us and mamm. If it’s already in my lymph node, wouldn’t there be a visible mass? I’m so confused and jumping to worst case scenarios.

    Hi!

Maybe the biopsy removed most of the tumor. The tumor doesn't have to be very big for breast cancer to spread to the lymph nodes. In fact, some women have occult breast cancer in the lymph nodes and no tumor is found in the breast.

I’ve only had one MRI in my life and that was a long time ago. It was done to see if I had more serious issues than the occasional dizzying spells I was having. They thought it was vertigo and turned out it was but they wanted to be sure. I never had one for breast cancer.

From what I understand the biopsy is the tell all procedure. It typically confirms what the doctors suspected.

However, I had a micromet in my SN that didn’t show up until the Path report was done after surgery. Even my doctor was surprised. I was stunned. He said it was so small they must have dissected and redissected to find it. Still it was there.

Ask the nurse or your doctor. Try and relax and realize whatever it is it can be treated. Btw I’m 7 years out last month.

    Good luck!

    Diane

Can you please tell me if an MRI is used only for people who have high breast density? Thanks!
