That escalated quickly...
Hello all, I’m a newcomer here, I lurked for a few weeks reading and gathering as much info as I could and finally decided to make an account today. My ordeal started back in May when I visited my new PCP and she ordered a routine screening mammogram for me. I put off scheduling for a few months due to work travel and finally had that done on 9/13. The radiologist called back the next day to let me know that they needed to take a closer look at my left breast so i was scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on 9/19. The mammogram confirmed a mass in the 1:00 position that was originally identified on the screening mammogram. US showed that was most likely a cyst but found a larger mass in 5:00 position. Report says BIRADS4. Had vacuum assisted core biopsy yesterday. I was really surprised when I saw the hospital calling - not with the test results, but to schedule an appointment with a breast surgeon and for a MRI. So still waiting on results as well. I’m just kind of in shock because this has all hit me so quickly! Not really worried - I do better with a lot of info, this site has really helped with that. The hardest part is that I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about this, I’m a transplant to a new city and work from home, so I don’t really have any close friends here, I haven’t told my family because I don’t want them to worry. I guess i’ll know soon enough.

HoosierMama, while no one wants to find themselves here, please know that you will encounter lots of caring people very willing to listen, care, and provide information when they can. Things sound like they are moving fast which is good, but difficult for the mind to wrap around. Ask your questions here, and accept the virtual (((((hugs)))))). Hope your MRI gets scheduled soon and also that you can connect with a nurse navigator in a breast center who can be your advocate and listening ear. Ceanna

Well shucks, HoosierMama, I'm hoping the news comes back better than expected. We've all been in the same or similar boat. The waiting and decision-making are the hardest part. I have found the experience and information here on the BCO boards to be invaluable and I hope you do too.

Sorry that you're here but welcome aboard! Perhaps you won't have to stick around?
That seems very surprising that the hospital would be scheduling an MRI as well as a consult without you receiving any results yet. Have you called your PCP?

So sorry you find yourself in this position. On the day of my mammogram and ultrasound before biopsy, my PCP (who had been my doctor for 30 years) called and told me to start finding a surgeon as things did not look good. I was BIRADS 5. I didn't believe it and of course, waited for biopsy. But unfortunately, they were right.
My best advice is do your homework now about surgeons, treatment, etc. Hopefully, you won't need it, but it is good info to have. That is the way I tried to look at it. And I would call your PCP.
Thinking of you as it is all so hard to wait!
