Surgical breast biopsy on Tuesday & stressed

Hi y'all!

I've been diagnosed as mastitis for nearly two months. I've been on antibiotics for 37 days straight now. (I'm not breastfeeding, last baby was born 16 years ago, & I don't smoke.) I had a mammogram & 2 ultrasounds at a womens clinic, all of which came back clear, ptl. My gynecologist wanted to refer me to an infectious disease specialist but I requested breast specialist to rule out malignancy.

The breast specialist said it could be a fungus, antibiotic resistant bacteria, unknown autoimmune disease (my mom has systemic scleroderma, brother has a rare autoimmune disease of blood vessels that I can't spell) or a malignancy. She told me I was already in the percentage of people whose symptoms did not improve with antibiotic use and therefore cancer was a possibility, but unlikely. She scheduled an open surgical biopsy for Tuesday morning.

I don't have a family history of any cancers, outside of lung cancer, which only occurred in heavy smokers. I'm just kind of...worried, I guess.

It'll be my first time under general anesthesia. My kids are still in our home. We educate them at home & it's my oldest sons senior year. We're also in the process of purchasing a new home....just a lot of changes. I'm wondering how we will adjust to all the changes if the biopsy comes back the big C. This is a lot of stress.

Thanks for listening, y'all.

Hi there and I'm so sorry about the confusion and stress. Cancer seems unlikely, so hold onto that and try to be optimistic for now. Believe me, if it is something serious you will find the strength to do what you need to do.

    Keep us posted.

Biopsy is done. It wasn't so bad after all.

She took out part of my areola & the swollen skin around the areola, as well as a 50 cent piece size of breast tissue.

Now I wait. Seems like that's all docs want me to do. Wait. In the meantime, I have to continue taking bactrim.

My tummy is sick of antibiotics.
