Tamoxifen and Joint pain
Comments

Hello All,
Has anyone had any joint pain they believe is from the Tamoxifen? I have had some severe ankle pain happen in both ankles at separate times with swelling and intense pain ( like a gout attack). I also had a random knee attack as well. These have lasted 3-4 days and I have taken alleve to help.
Thanks and good luck to all!

Sorry! This is a common side effect. I find using a sports brace as soon as a joint starts hurting to reduce the length of time it persists.

Try magnesium, with permission from your doctor. Take it at night and I bet it will help the pain. Soak in Epsom Salts as well, as your body will leach magnesium from the salts. I have even purchased Grandpa's soap from Amazon, that is made with Epsom salts.

I agree, Michelle. And stay well-hydrated. I also now consistently use dietary ginger, turmeric, and black pepper every day as anti-inflammatories.

I've been taking Tamoxifen for about 2 weeks, noticing less overall joint pain since radiation (ended 8/29) but more consistent upper body/neck discomfort. Maybe it's the non-stop "rolling in the hay" with night sweats (compounded by a menopausal spouse, husky-mix, and cat)?
I've been using CBD balm/oil daily (yes I live in Colorado but CBD is available in all 50 states now), and trying to remember to stretch/sauna and take magnesium before I head to bed. I'm not crazy about ibuprofen, etc. Still, the neck pain is always there in the morning.
Hopefully, once I start back on a weight-training routine I'll have more to report on the issue.
Any advice re: taking Tamoxifen in the morning or before bed? Seems like I have a period of dizziness in the morning (which is when I've been taking it), especially if I'm doing something active such as cycling or hiking, or even just working out in the yard.
Highly recommend CBD! I use Receptra Naturals; Charlotte's Web is also well-known in the medical community.
Sending good vibes from the woods...

Hey,
I take it between 10pm and 11pm every day. I have had no real issues other than this crazy occasional joint pain, mainly ankle or foot. I have been taking magnesium for a few weeks and only did so because a friend said it was helping him sleep. I think it may actually remediate any brain fog. I stay really active from cycling to tennis weights so the joint pain is really annoying because it can stop me in my tracks.

I take it with breakfast because that gives me the most consistency. I already have vertigo and dizziness from the general anesthesia and don't want to wake at night with vertigo attacks more than necessary.

Thank you Positive Mojo!
I may switch to pm in the future; just trying to find a rhythm that works ya know? I'll watch out for "joint attacks" and so sorry that you're having them.

I take in the pm... 10mgs between 6 and 8pm, another 10mgs when I go to sleep. It helps me to sleep.

Hi gang!
I just started tamoxifen-20mg a day on 12/10/18. Lucky for me-I’ve never really had any trouble with headaches-until this week.
I’ve had a headache come and go every day, kind of like in waves. And this AM, I woke up with a SUPER stiff neck-it hurts to turn it left/right.
I’ve had a few other SE’s also-should I give my Onco a call? I’m generally fit and healthy, rarely do I have ‘body aches’.
Good luck to all of us on this journey
