Dark grainy menstrual discharge taking tamoxifen

Options

Alright Ladies....here we go with tmi! Been on tamoxifen for two months. My first period started out dark brown discharge followed by a day of full on flow and Pain that made me want to lie perfectly still. Once day one was over pain was tolerable. Now I'm in to my second period, first day cramping but not debilitating, however I have a gritty, grainy looking discharge. There's no real odor, just black and weird consistency and stabbing random cramping. I go to gynecologist in 10 days. Any ideas on what the heck is happening? I had a questionable abdominal Ct scan in March of this year, was referred to gynecologist, she did a vaginal ultrasound and said all was fine. She did not suggest a hysterectomy, even though my x was strongly hormone positive stage one.

    Hi SunflowersmyFav, Never TMI here

Just curious, what other treatments (including surgeries) did you have? Did a medical oncologist prescribe you the Tamoxifen? Perhaps it is worth an appointment with them as well to discuss the Tamoxifen and this potential side effect.

Here is a page on Tamoxifen, in case it could be helpful.

Hang in there, and thanks for joining our community.

I had a dmx in March 2018 with immdeiadte DIEP flap reconstruction. In July 2018 i had a phase 2 revision surgery done. Yes, a MO prescribed the Tamoxifen and suggested i at least have ovaries removed. I went to gynecologist and she said that dr wanted everybody's ovaries removed. Does everyone who is on tamoxifen opt for a preventive hysterectomy?

Hello Sunflower, I am wondering if you have seen your gynecologist yet. I have an appointment next month with mine for menopausal/tamoxifen issues, but now I have a (TMI) thick body discharge with my period not due for another week.

Yes, I saw her earlier this week. The symptoms I gave her, coupled with recently starting tamoxifen, she believed the dark discharge was old blood and the dryness of the discharge might just be the She explained the pain I had previously experienced from the period before last, then followed by the black discharge this time was what she called a capusular--something. She explained it as something that didn't fully slough off during the previous period. It is full of blood and capillaries /vessels and basically dried up but wasn't discharged until the recent period. So fingers crossed, my next cycle should be somewhat normal, I hope"
