Masectomy after Chemo
After chemo I met with a genetic counselor because my BRCA test came back with a Variant of Unknown Significance. After meeting with the counselor she and my oncologist recommended I have a mastectomy and remove my ovaries. Breast Cancer has occurred in every female on my Dad's side going back generations. I am ER/PR + and my onco test came back high for reoccurrence. I had a lumpectomy and SN removal before chemo and it showed that the cancer was in 6 nodes.
I am just confused if doing the surgery now is the way to go or if I should wait until after radiation. I ended Chemo (AC/t & Taxol) on Aug. 3 and was supposed to start radiation a month after but now that is on hold. Just feel confused.

jodie, I would ask about getting on hormone therapy ASAP.

They put me on Tamoxifen about 3 weeks ago, I forgot to add that.

It may be better to wait until after the surgery to do the radiation, depending on whether or not you want to do reconstruction. I would consult with a PS since some outcomes are better if done pre-rads.
