Doctor has results for 2 days...

I had 2 biopsies done on Tuesday. The results were sent to my doctor's office on Wednesday afternoon. I called Thursday morning and spoke with the nurse. She said "oh, I told him to call you with the results, I thought he had already." So, she said she would "send him a message to call me." That was 10am on Thursday. By 1pm I called again and left a message. And one more time at 4:50pm. He has not gotten back with me. The nurse told me she could not give me the results because "the doctor wants to go over the results with you himself." I will call again this morning (Friday). The anxiety is killing me. The report was also sent to the surgeon I want if needed. I called the surgeon's office and they do have the results but cannot give them to me because they are not the ordering physician. I am so frustrated. (I have had breast cancer before...this doctor is new to the practice, taking over from my previous oncologist who retired).

Ugh--so sorry about all of this. All I can recommend is that you keep doing what you have been--be the squeaky wheel. I have to think you'll be able to talk to your doctor before the weekend. (Also, in my experience doctors tend to do their phone calls late in the day, after they've finished with patients.)

    PatTheArtist:

I had genetic testing once for an entirely different condition and after the doctor sat on the results for few weeks, I finally walked in there and asked for a copy and they gave them to me...in the U.S. they actually have to give you copies of your medical records but they can make you go through their official process.

I'm sure some people don't want their results until they can talk to the doctor about them but I'm a "give them to me now, we'll talk later if we have to" type person, and my current doctors know this so they are usually pretty good about having them posted to my patient portal when they become available.

I would probably just make an appointment if he wants to talk about them or walk in there in person at the end of the day when he is finishing up with appointments and ask for the results.

Go to where you had the biopsy and request the results. That's your right

    Good Luck.

The Oncologist (who ordered the biopsies) called (finally). Yes, breast cancer in one of the biopsies. He got me in with the surgeon immediately. Will be having a double mastectomy with reconstruction.

Ugh, Pat, so sorry about the recurrence. You sound like a strong person but do let us know how we can help.

I’m sorry too about the recurrence. I wonder how these doctors would feel if they were waiting for resultslike we have had to do. I don’t wait well anyway so I would have gone into his office too and waited for him if need be to get my results.

I am sorry that you have to go through this again but glad you received your results. The waiting is awful. I have received the cancer diagnosis but the lab said they needed more time for HR and Her2 status.

Unfortunately, it looks like a few of us on this thread are on our second go round with this horrible disease.

I'm so sorry you guys are dealing with the beast again. My sister just had a local recurrence after being 4 years out. It's the fear we all have because there are no guarantees unfortunately. I'm 7 years out last month and while I'm blessed I know it's not a given it won't come back. I just don't focus on it like I used to. I'll always be nervous before my annual mammo but that's the hand I've been dealt.
