Found lump/doc found lump US shows nothing

Hello,

Would love some advice, guidance, and your experiences. I’ve found a lump in my right breast, my husband felt, my mother felt and my OBGYN felt. So my OBGYN sent me to have Ultrasound in which the tech told me nothing was there. Now, I do not have a medical degree, but what I do know is my body, I have a lump, without a doubt. What could it be, what should I do, do I just except that? I am very worried because breast cancer runs in my family. It is tender, doesn’t hurt constantly, just tender. And it’s not small, it’s a nice size lump. I know my OBGYN will call me back and let me know the results in the next day or so, what do I do, he obviously felt it himself. I miss at a loss. And stressing like crazy. Any comment should are very much appreciated

    Most breast lumps are benign. My BC did not show up on an ultrasound, it showed faintly on the MRI but was dismissed, the only way it was seen was via a mammogram which showed grouped calcifications. I would request an MRI and a mammogram just to cover all your bases. Hopefully, your doctor will agree.

    I think I'd want to see a breast specialist. An OB/GYN is good at what they do, but they are not specialists in all conditions of the breast. Clearly, there is a lump. Whether they saw it or not does not change that fact. Since you do not have a diagnosis, I'd suggest you keep bumping this up the line until you are satisfied that you know what it is. There are other tests that may be able to show this lump better.

    If the tech could not find your lump, normally, the radiologist would have come in and personally continued the ultrasound. If i understand your post correctly, this did not take place. The next diagnostic step would be a visit with a breast surgeon. This is the doc best qualified to assess a lump and recommend further imaging. Alternatively, your gyn might send you for an MRI. Whatever the next step, it is important that there be one.

    I had an area that could not be found on ultrasound but was seen on 3d mammo. They did my biopsy using 3d mammo as a guide.

    My IDC was not visible on mammogram or US, but could be seen on MRI.
