Wig talk

Oh, I'm so glad to find this thread! I didn't think I would even want a wig, and now I'm obsessed with them. I have a wig I love, though it's been too hot to wear it ... and I ordered a second one just so I can change it up.
But honestly: I want a dozen wigs. They are the only fun thing about treatment.
-
Hi, yellow, i agree, it can be fun, and transforming. Giving back a measure of control as well.😎😎
-
Everyone here looks amazing. Truly. Take that chemo!!
I love this thread!!
Ok Moth that’s fantastic. Beyond.
I spent a fortune on my human hair wig. I barely wore it. But loved my synthetic hair headband by Jon renau easihair. I purchased human hair bangs I attached to it. It kept me super warm walking my dogs during the winter months. But snarled terribly. I went thru a few of them. Because they would dry out and frizz.
I styled using steam rollers and spraying some Argan oil on for sheen. I used Brandywine wig spray for human hair wig to set! I don’t think you should use much product on synthetic wigs.
Keep sharing ladies! This thread makes me smile and humbled to be in such good company of such brave and uplifting spirits!!

So here I am with January, which is not so different from my real hair, if my real hair were artfully highlighted and had more body and could hold a beachy wave thing ... okay. It is very different from my bio-hair.
-
Hi, yellow. You. Look great in January!! Extraordinary color match to your eyebrows and looks very natural. I love how you are wearing it with the forehead exposed ...the lace front is perfect!!
I looked at January myself and thought the beach waves were really nice. Nice pick. But went with Zara, also beach waves and lace front.
CBK, thanks for the input on human hair wigs, i do think the synthetic are easier to upkeep.
I just ordered a new one, yes, it's addicting!
-
Aw, thank you Djt!
I figure as long as I've sprung for a lace front, I don't need to have hair in my eyes.
January seemed too poofy when I got it -- but then I wore it a little and it settled down. Still a lot fluffier than my natural hair, but less voluminously wiggy.
-
okay, I think I am at the point of accepting that this lovely, heavily discounted, unreturnable wig will never accommodate my big head. It's a Jon Renau Evan, with a dark brown root and copper/auburn/ medium brown body. Adorable. Lace front and movable part. For reference, my head is 23.5", and if I'd known more about how wigs fit, I wouldn't have grabbed this.
Free to a good home, and it's had perhaps 6 hours of wear, being generous. Message me if you think it's for you. I'll donate to the Cancer Society otherwise, but if you've wondered about this sort of style I'm glad to help!
-
Yellow! fantastic! I would never know that wasn't your real hair! (the longer one). The short one is cute but the longer one is cuter
I went to Lady Day wigs on W. 35th in NYC yesterday and picked up two wigs even though I'm not ready for them yet. I can easily see becoming addicted to wig buying.
1. My real hair:
2. Wig 1 (needs adjusting this was just me trying it on)
Wig 2
All my friends love the first one and don't really like the second, but I love them both.
-
And Yellow - I think your short one is cute but the less short one is cuter
-
pcranky - I'm with your friends and I like #1 just a bit more
but maybe it's just the photo, kwim? #2 looks darker & more on your face and I think that's what I don't like about it - looks heavy and covering you up too much. I think #1 makes you look young and vibrant but I could see #2 doing the same if it has movement and comes off your face when you walk & talk -
pcranky That top one definitely looks great in the photo, and the bottom one is hard to read here... but it's so fun, isn't it? And hardly anything about cancer is fun-- it's really just this and the warm blanket at chemo. Wigs are transformative.
-
Moth.. I totally get it. I actually do think the long one looks better but I actually felt really good in the short one in person, I think it just doesn't photograph that well. I haven't had short hair like my whole adult life so its fun to play around.
I tried on blonde ones too but they just totally don't work on me.. the red ones however looked great so there is one of those in my futrure i suspect
-
pcranky - would you like us to tell you to buy them all? Cause I'm here for you. I'm a good shopping enabler :P
-
PCranky, pic 1 no one will ever think thisx is NOT YOUR REAL HAIR!! Pic 2, i love the rich color and texture. I think if you trimmed the bang a bit, it would look perfect. Also, yes! Red would look great on you.
-
yellow, thats too bad that its a bit small. It looks really nice. Have you You tubed how to adjust straps and /or cut to make larger? I feel your pain as i measure at 23 and have to really research on line to find the right fit.
-
Moth, yes, yes I would. I'm a great shopping enabler too.. also an eating enabler. I'm here for whatever trouble you want to get into
DJT, thank you!
-
Djt , yes I have, and I was set to follow those instructions ... but I realized it's not eally the perimeter that's the problem. As you can see, I have a long head in back. The perimeter stretches to accommodate just fine, but there isn't enough give across the ... the ginormous bulb of my head ... so it always eventually pulls the sides and back up. With a grip it will stay put, but I haven't tried for long because it's really uncomfortable like that. I think it's just not a wig for me!
There's a list of wig-makers with more generous regular cap sizes tucked away at Cysterwigs -- I remember Estetica and Envy were on there, and Rene of Paris, but there were more than that.

Yellowb - that's really cute! What size is it marked as? I really like it, but as a petite at 21.25", I'm concerned it might be too big for me.
-
TabzIsMyAngel, it's an average cap. It has adjustable tab-straps, but you probably know the limitations of those better than I do... and there is a review (that I really should have read!) on cysterwigs saying that someone who prefers a petite wig was able to make it work.
I'd be happy to send it to you to try out! Evan needs a home.
-
yellow- that January looks great on you. What color is that?
-
Thank you, LibbyLouWho18! It's Toffee Truffle.
-
pcranky, I prefer the second wig. The style is modern and youthful, but then I just like shorter cuts.
yellowb, I really like your wigs as well. So flattering!
I miss wearing my wigs, but it's just too hot to wear them right now. Can't wait for cooler weather.
-
It's been too hot here to actually wear a wig all day here as well -- but there was one day I went to work in the January wig because it was a bit cooler ... and got asked if I'd cut my hair. I thought surely everyone had noticed my hairless state -- it's been months of baseball caps and kerchiefs!
-
yellow, isn't that the truth tho?? These days, no one seems to notice much! I don't know if thats good or bad! Well you can be sure you look just fine at work. I know I feel kind of strange with just a few eyelashes, but im sure the only one to notice is me.
-
And ... my rusty red Rae came. This wig makes me very happy (and there's a guest appearance from my port). Also: those super clearances of returned wigs are worth trying! I never would have tried a red, and I love it.
-
Your photos are inspiring! I am on the other side of wig wear, back in my real hair. I ended chemo on May 22, 2018 and stopped the wig 2 months later. My real hair and wig were somewhere between chin and shoulder-length. If I had a do-over, I would have gone with a short style to make the transition back to real hair easier. But, I think I may have been too self-conscious to do that, as any comments/compliments would have put me on the spot fearing people could tell it was a wig! I am not good at dishonesty/acting.It was hard to start wearing a wig, just as hard to give it up!
(yellowb your port looks just like mine did.
-
yellowb-
That Rae is fab on you! Love love love it!!
You may just have discovered your “best look” in the midst of chemo.
👍👊
-
Yellowb! Rae is FANTASTIC on you!. the color - the cut- everything.
The best part is when you dye your own hair red, the color turns pretty quickly and it stops looking as good. - With a wig it stays the right color the whole time!
-
yellow b...Rae rocks on you. Extraordinary color flatters you, and I love the natural beachy wave touseled look. And I can tell you love it by your smile!
Stubborndog... I bet you look Great! I think the key is to wear that hair like you own it completely!! Keep your head up and look life in the eye with the confidence that wearing a great "do gives us!!
Hope all here are feeling well, and doing better!!
