Recently diagnosed awaiting operation date
Going through a huge range of emotions, trying to get a grip on all that has happened and is about to happen!
Feeling emotionally and physically drained (only 3 days from diagnosis) suffering from fatigue already which I’m presuming is to do with my emotional well-being ...or lack of at the moment!
Is this normal?

tlw0818, I am sorry you have found yourself here, but I can tell you this. Everyone on here has been so supportive, and here. I was just diagnosed recently as well. I can tell you that I have also been on an emotional roller coaster. I can sympathize with feeling drained, I just had my breast MRI this morning, and fully intended to go to yoga this evening but not feeling motivated. Have you met with your surgeon yet? Things did feel a little better for me after I was headed in the direction of a treatment plan. I also took the advice that I saw on here to make up a binder to keep track of all my test results, mileage, appointments, and insurance statements. I did a little retail therapy at the local craft sore to pretty it up and fiddle with the organization of it when I am feeling antsy. I know there are others that will have some good advice for you. I truly wish you moments of peace, its hard, and all of this just sucks.

Thanks Dani444
Yes, have a treatment plan....waiting for my date for my operation which will then be followed on by course of radiotherapy and hormone treatment. It’s just the waiting.....waiting for test results, waiting for diagnosis, now waiting for hospital date for operation. They’ve said it will be within 2-3 wks, which I suppose is quick, but to me....feels like forever away?
Just want the treatment started....then I can see an end to it all....mentally coming to terms with it all is the hardest I think.
Have met my surgeon and he has explained what will be happening.....I will see him again on the morning of surgery.
So sorry you are going through this too....Life is a shit sometimes huh? Take care

tlw, sorry you find yourself here, but I hope those you meet here will be a source of help and (((hugs))). Waiting is the hardest part but glad you have a treatment plan in place. Feeling fatigue, emotions, and anger are all part of this journey. On your way to surgery and treatment, you might want to browse through some of the threads here discussing your type of surgery, treatment, rads, and hormone treatment. Sometimes just plugging into one thread will lead you to others. Maybe start with those, like you, waiting for surgery in September September 2018 Surgery Support Group or the August group. Ask questions--we are here to help! Blessings. Ceanna

I too am awaiting surgery date after being diagnosed only last Friday and what a whirlwind since then. I can't get into the surgeon until next Thursday which seems like a million years away. I am sitting here thinking how much will this thing grow in a week or two.
-
Welcome GB and I'm glad you found us. totally understand your fear, but most breast cancer is super slow growing. Hope your surgeon answers your questions and honestly, I hope her or she takes the time to get all of the tests and data needed to give you the very best advice. Do let us know how we can help.
And TLW, yup, that's all perfectly normal. Once you have a concrete plan and a doctor you trust you will feel better. The early worry is in some ways the worst part of this journey. All best wishes.
-
Thanks everyone for your kind words of support.
Just feel like I’m living on my nerves right now, finding it hard to eat or sleep. Hopefully once my operation date comes through this will subside??
GB1921, understand totally that fear...once you know it’s there you just want it out!
Quick question....can you request from your surgeon that they take a larger margin in the first place to save then having to possibly go back in again? The thought of that (for me) is greater than just losing the breast completely?
-
Think I’m more angry with this shitty disease right now, I only had a mammogram at the end of March this year that came back totally clear!!! Then, here I am just over 4 months later!! Thank god I check myself regularly....and know that this bloody ‘lump’ can’t possibly be more than 4 months old.
Just goes to show ladies.....over a certain age, being invited for a mammogram once every 3-5 yrs IS NOT FREQUENT ENOUGH! 🤬
-
I have a mammogram yearly as my Mum had breast cancer. My last one was 11 months ago. Go figure. Plus surgery just called and moved appointment to Tuesday so 2 days less to stress.

GB1921
That’s such good news they’ve brought your surgery forward! Good luck!
-
TLW, sounds like you are having a lumpectomy? Yes, you can let your surgeon know you'd rather him be too conservative rather than worry about the cosmetic affect of the surgery; sometimes they even do a pathology right in the operating room and take out an extra bit if the margins are too close. Hopefully you have an experienced breast surgeon you trust and can talk to.
GB, best of luck to you.

Hi,
I would highly encourage the Septemeber support group or whichever month you will be set up for surgery. Helpful having others going through much of the same emotions at the same time and in one place on this board.
Definitely bring your concerns to your surgeons attention. I could certainly understand not wanting to hear that they have to go back in for a cleaner margin. Not sure if they look during time of surgery at the section if it has clean margins. I chose a mastectomy so all I know is that they checked the nipple(saved them) and the node.

Hi,
Just got diagnosed stage 1B,grade 1
ER+/PR+/Her2-
Met with the surgeon, he said mastectomy probably will be scheduled in a month, I’m really scared, can’t wait this long, please share with your experience, how soon you had the surgery done, is 1 month too long
-
hi nigoha, I think every one is different. I was diagnosed and had surgery 19 days later. I think it all averages out. (Some less and some more). The one month sounds pretty normal. I just had my bilateral mx yesterday.
Wishing you well.
-
I was diagnosed on 3/6 and had my surgery on 3/31 (of last year)
It normally takes a few weeks for scheduling, prep, etc. So, don’t stress. I think you will be just fine.
-
Hi Nigoha, I hate the horror you're going through and there is no silver lining to the diagnosis and road ahead. That being said use that month to ready the stage of your life-clean, straighten, take care of business like you would if you were taking a month road trip. Treat yourself with little things that you love but didn't take time to do. Do your shopping for comfy clothes for recovery, comfort foods that remind you of happy times and do some fun things with those you love. If you're into knowing more about your diagnosis use the medical info on this site to empower yourself. Quiz the women on this site and mine they're strength. Soon the month will be gone, surgery will be over and the whirlwind of treatment will blow you down the path to health. Hang in there and don't despair. Hugs and peace to you. Jo -
Just diagnosed with a recurrence. I have an appointment on September 5 with a BS so I'll find out next week when my surgery will be scheduled.
-
Yay.....(I think) ...operation set for next Saturday!!! Had a phone call yesterday to ask if it was convenient...err YES!
Really glad it's come through so quickly.....lots of emotions/anxieties creeping in again..
Still, only a week to wait this time!
How quickly will I be up and around after the op? General anaesthetic normally wipes me out for a good 1-2wks..I’ve been given exercises to do straight after the op...?
-
Chantalbe, I'm so sorry. Please keep us posted and let us know how we can help.
TLW, is it a lumpectomy? I only needed Tylenol and ice for three days then was able to go back to work. But it will be awhile before you can lift anything with that arm. The stretching exercises they prescribe are super important.
-
georgia1
Yes lumpectomy....checking lymph nodes at same time.
Having a bad couple of days...very emotional and angry! It’s been a complete whirlwind from initially finding the lump, gp, hospital, tests, results, diagnosis....don’t feel like my feet have touched the ground! And now the operation....all becoming very real!!
Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to have this thing growing inside me removed...but it’s still very scary stuff!
-
thank you ladies,
I wish you all well, I just wish I have a date for surgery, not knowing is also hard.
Doctor found benign mass on my left side (mri ), and I want double mastectomy, hope he won’t talk me out
-
Dear beach2beach, would you mind sharing what kind of reconstruction you have had?
I'm meeting with plastic surgeon on sep 12, what questions should I ask.
Thank you so much

thank you JoE777, really helpful
