ER+/PR+ question

Hi ladies, I'm ER+/PR+. My surgeon said chemo won't work on my IBC bc ofthat. Does that sound correct?

    I don't know much about IBC but chemotherapy is done on ER+/PR+ IDC if it's big enough and either the oncotype score is high enough or it's HER2 positive. You should consult with an oncologist.

    Medical oncologist determined treatment. Maybe surgeon meant chemo is not the best treatment for your cancer. Other factors come into play like lymph nodes and oncodx as WC3 mentioned.

    Thank you so much. I haven’t meant with my oncologist yet. They said I’ll meet with him after my surgery. It sounds like the surgeon spoke before we have all the information in. Thank you. That really helps

    Is there a way you can meet with the oncologist before surgery? It seems pretty standard to do so where I am. I got three opinions from surgeons. The two I saw individually wanted me to see an oncologist first before they would do surgery and the third was a combined consultation with an oncologist, breast surgeon and cosmetic surgeon.

    does your surgeon specialize on breasts and breast cancer? If not (or even if) consider a second consult. My breast surgeon was instrumental in helping me build my team and it started immediately following diagnosis and my first consult with my breast surgeon. I saw a plastic surgeon and radiation oncologist before my sentinel node biopsy. Immediately after my sentinel node biopsy and my mammaprint results I saw a medical oncologist. I knew my team and plans prior to my mastectomy. While I haven’t seen my breast surgeon since my portacath was removed in February 2017, I consider him part of my cancer team. Please don’t let anyone keep you from seeing doctors and getting your questions answered
