Just want to update everyone..
I dont know if anyone remembers me from last month. But i am 43. Diagnosed with IDC. And was not doing well emotionally. Well today i went for my second opinion at memorial sloan Kettering. The COMPLETELY agreed with my NJ doctors. Its stage 1a. Non aggressive. Most common type of breast cancer. Estrogen driven..i did find out im brca2+. So instead of lumpectomy and radiation, i choose a bilateral max. All doctors agreed. So today i made the phone call to set up my surgery. They will call me in a few days with the date. Im so nervous over the surgery, but thats because i hate hospitals, blood, pain, etc. But i have no choice. I just want to write this, thank you for listening.
Caren.

Sounds like you have an excellent prognosis. Keep that in mind as you go through the process. Best wishes!

Thank you for the update. Yes, your prognosis is excellent. A few tough months for sure but then it will be behind you. Best wishes and let us know how we can help.

Caren,
Glad it's early stage. I chose a dbl mx and for me the surgery was not bad at all. I honestly was freaking out about being put under anesthesia, not the surgery itself. I had really no pain, just uncomfortable pulling around the drain areas. They didn't give pain killers, they gave me Ketorolac, which is as the nurse said, heavy duty Tylenol. Went home with a few of those pills, but didn't need it. Hopefully it will be uneventful for you also.

i wanted to update everyone. I was diagnosed back in june with IDC. Brca2,+. 43 years old. Boy i feel like so much has happened! 2 weeks ago today i had my bilateral max. Surgery went very well. Got my drains removed after less the 2 weeks. During surgery my nodes were all clear!. My final pathology report showed exactly what they figured i had..stage 1. Grade 1. Non aggressive. Today i got my oncotype back. Its 15!! No chemo. Girls, this has been some ride so far, but im turning the corner. I was in a really dark place, but there is light shining thru this long tunnel.

So happy for you on a number of fronts. No chemo - yea! I had an Oncotype score of 11 so I dodged chemo too. I was Stage 1b, Grade 1 IDC 7 years ago this month. So far, so good.
Good luck!
Diane

I am from NJ too! Happy that you and I got good Oncotype scores! Mine was low too! I was so relieved. I had bone cancer when I was a teenager and the thought of chemo again made me kind of sad because I had a lot of bad side affects as a kid. But I knew I could handle it if I needed it! I am glad your surgery went well
