had surgery on 8/3. Right side mastectomy and expander, left side reconstruction. All went well and I received great care in the hospital. My husband has been a great caregiver, so patient and tender. I've done ok, but the pain has been more than I anticipated. It has got the best of me. I have a super high pain threshold, but it has been rough. Healing is going well, both surgeons are pleased with my progress. I think I thought I'd be bettter by now and not in as much pain, I know pain as well as the shock of having breast cancer is a lot to process. That and after diagnosis I stopped HRT, and am feeling that tearful, pitiful depression I had post hysterectomy. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

I had a double mastectomy 4/24 this year and at three weeks I was still in pain. For me it diminished slowly for about 4 or 5 weeks and then fell off more quickly. I tried to get off the stronger pain meds too soon a few times and then one day realized all I needed was Tylanol and then nothing. I think its normal to cry and be afraid. We need to give ourselves room for grief. It all starts out so fast and there is a lot to come to terms with. It gets better.

thank you! I’ve been a caregiver most of my adult life, so it is hard to be the patient. The grief hits in waves, but you’re right about giving ourselves time. Thanks for your reply! Take care
